I feel a slight sense of shame that only 25 people have been vaccinated in Africa. Yes, 25.

More than 25? Hardly an achievement of note.

I see on the news Captain Tom is in Hospital with the Chinese Virus , poor bloke  :(

He was admitted to hospital with pneumomia, which he has had for a few weeks with no improvement, it was on a "routine check" that they found he was covid-19 positive .... so to imply he was admitted with covid is a tad OTT.

He has not had the covid-19 vaccination because of the medication he has been on for the pneumonia.

He is not in intensive care but is being treated for pneumonia with additional oxygen.

I also hope he pulls through .. but pneumonia at 100 is no laughing matter .....

Just to ensure no-one gets upset .. perhaps I should have written..

.... so for the media to imply he was admitted with covid is a tad OTT.... but why let the truth get in the way of a good headline .....

I did not intend to imply Dave was being OTT...

There's always more to the story
Sky said he's just come back from Barbados  :-\
you'd think he'd have been advised against such a trip
I hope he recovers soon
Just shows Covid isn't picky who it attacks

He's definitely a brave man getting on a plane, I wouldn't get anywhere near one at the moment.

Nope, a hundred year old getting on with life 8)

As an observation, no one is calling him selfish for travelling against doctors advice...

Yes I agree with that, although I don’t blame the old bugger for trying to get a bit more enjoyment in the time he has left.

Well I am gobsmacked if he has been to barbados. Like you say good on him for enjoying life however....

Isn't it UK policy "only essential travel". Holidays are not essential travel. We cannot even travel out of province or in many cases out of town.

This is exactly how variants came to Britain or indeed other countries. Portugal now has the worst death rate per capita of any European country because they did not close their border with Brazil ( obviously a lot of travel as a former colony) They have closed it now. Familiar story? Spain has closed its border with Portugal. We now have surging rates. The worst affected town in Andalucia is just 10 miles from us. Our nearest village had idiots have a party at new year and then went home and gave their parents CV19. One dead so far.

Talking of dead. I wonder what travel insurance Capt Toms family had on him. Very risky travelling at that age. Mind you your government would have repatriated his body or sick frame.

You can get a vaccination against pneumonia ( don't know if it is bacterial or viral) Costs circa £20 from our local chemist here in Spain. If you are in a risk category e.g. done a lot of welding in your lifetime, you get it automatically here when you have your flu jab. Only the one jab necessary against pneumonia.

Just checked on our vaccination website and mine is due between 1.3.21 and 31.5.21
