Lucky bugger is already out of hospital  :o

This is great news! Assume no severe injuries then? Did it even break his foot?

As for the cause... Unfortunately everyone takes shortcuts every now and again (the ground crew could be covering their arses like anyone else will  ;) ) and these incidents are what highlights that.

Any experience of this make? Cheap at £10.50 per Litre delivered. :-\

I guess no-one has used this, but as it meets the spec it should be OK. :y My Ford stealer only offers 4L cans of Castrol. :(

It says it meets the spec so it’ll be ok.  :y

Didn’t get to watch the highlights until last night, for various reasons, and wish I hadn’t bothered! I know Australia isn’t known for overtaking but that really was dull! Glad I don’t pay for the channel any more ::)

I’d then seriously re consider driving from Perth to Melbourne when doing it.

FTFY LD  :)

That's a great drive to do once for the adventure.  :y

The reality is that much of it is a very long boring drive through flat scrubby desert.  One well known stretch the '90 mile straight' is notable, but there are lots of 89,88,87 etc etc straights as well!  ::)

It took me 3 days in an elderly Ford Cortina which I rarely took over 70mph and it's not advisable to drive across the Nullabor Desert or the vast farmlands at night as feral camels tend to settle down on the warm tarmac at night and Kangaroos have a habit of jumping out!  :o

You regularly see massive bloodstains on the road where a Kangaroo has jumped out in front of a roadtrain!  ::)

Believe it or not the Western Australia Police patrol with planes to catch people speeding!  ::)  It really is the absolute middle of butt opps nowhere!  ::)  ;D

Yep. Seriously looked at it last time we are there ;)

Looking at the prices I’ve just been emailed they have loaded the economy price for LHR - Perth... It’s cheaper to fly to Melbourne. Premium Economy is, however, slightly cheaper than the Melbourne flights.

I think we will actually have a couple of days layover in Bubai next time though

Always worth chatting to Ford... Their oil was remarkably well priced compared to other dealers (including VX TC!!) :y

I’m certainly looking forward to using the Direct flight in the future... Dubai to Melbourne is 16 hours so the extra hour makes it worth it (if flying Direct with no stopover). I’d then seriously consider driving from Perth to Melbourne when doing it.

As for flight times... We had a midday(ish) departure from LHR and arrived into Melbourne late evening... Virtually no jet lag at all going out there but it hit me like a ton of bricks about 5 days after getting back to the UK - just as I was getting back into work ::)

What people forget is that long haul flights are not in the same league as short haul when it comes to comfort and facilities, especially if you have a young child and get the bulkhead seats 😉

Those who have followed one or both of us on Facebook will know how much of a massive operation this was. She was diagnosed with Bowel Disease about a year ago (despite a previous consultant ruling it out through negligence, but that’s another story!) and has gotten progressively worse.

Whilst the pain from the operation (which should have taken about 7 hours) she has had is pretty intense, once the trauma of the surgery calms and she recovers it is expected she will be pain free!

I will, of course, pass on everyone’s messages. Thanks.

Mrs LD (or Cakey) has had a busy week. Last Monday she went into hospital for a 6-7 hour operation to (hopefully) stop her from all the pain and discomfort of the last few years.

In the end she was in surgery over 10 hours but he did succeed in performing it all laparoscopically (keyhole) and she came home on Friday!

Recovery is slow and steady and she is gradually getting better and getting used to things now.

Most smart motorways have now activated the cameras and operate a zero tolerance policy  ::)
I very much doubt it. I know they made a big things about the Derbyshire cameras being turned on all the time (they are the most profitable in the country, apparently), yet I've seen cars going through them at least 20MPH over 70 and no flashes. They also can't do 'zero' tolerance as each car differs and the speedo's aren't reliable enough (they are now, but it still exists). Most forces work to 10% +2MPH, some are 10% +1MPH before they would even consider a prosecution.

Just a bit of info... Speedometer reading on modern cars are no longer +/- but only over read.

“Tolerances” are only a guidline from the ACPO and not set in stone - if any force chose to ignore them it is completely down to them. Mrs LD got a NIP for 43 in a 40 - Speed awareness course was offered and accepted.

« on: 24 March 2018, 09:51:25 »
Having read the report alongside other less “official” information I’m not at all surprised charges have been brought. But I’m surprised the pilot is facing them alone... I expected the over to face them too and possibly even the maintenance company.

There are a lot of errors made but the biggest single one is by the pilot even starting a display he hasn’t been cleared to perform, let alone failing to abort at the upper gateway.

Doesn’t mean I don’t feel for the guy... He’s got to live with the consequences for the rest of his life without any charges anyway! He tried to put right the mistake but simply didn’t have the height or Airspeed to do it!

Possibly.....but I'd like to know all costs before rather than after.

The invoice has the oil down as Fuelsaver A1 5/20.......no idea what that is. :-\
You'll get whatever sh1te the bean counter had the bulk tank filled with, regardless of what it says on the invoice.

I can't prove they have done either. No dipstick to find dirty or clean oil on.

When take the Datsun in for a service I provide the oil and get the oil deducted from the service cost, it might work out more expensive but at least I know what oil is going in.
Essentially I've paid £225 for an oil and filter change. :-\

Assuming that actually use it and don’t pocket the decent stuff you’ve bought and stick el cheapo bulk oil in :-X ::)

Omega General Help / Re: wheel bolts
« on: 18 March 2018, 12:03:36 »
Soaked the remaining three locking bolts in plus gas and penetrating oil (the best i could) tried to undo but tool kept rolling off. Went to local national tyres explaining problem , initially told couldn't help but had a go when i produced special adapter. He tried but no go,he then tried with nut gun in an attempt to thump it off and managed to shock all three off : I was so chuffed i gave the bloke £20 not bad for 10minutes but worth every penny to me, as could have been very expensive
Pleased you got it sorted. Much too late to help you now, it has dawned on me exactly what you said; you had the correct removal tool, but it was rolling off the nut and not undoing it This is what would happen if you put the tool on the nut and heaved on one end of a long breaker bar. With a high torque nut gun applying an even torque there is no tendency for the tool to roll off the nut, so off it came.

The issue being that it can shear the “key” out of the nut :-X ::)

How do you manage not to laugh at all the idiots here in the UK who can’t get about in a couple of CMS of snow? :D
