I have noted the comments about the police and my faith in them in the thread by Dave who had his Omega rammed, so now, after saying what I did in that thread, I now state I know what the actual situation is, and why some of you think "the police are useless".

It is not the individual police officer that is useless, but the justice system that is "broken", as described by one blunt Chief Constable. The Police Service has been stretched to beyond breaking point by government cuts that you, me and everyone else has allowed the politicians to do. Cutting 20,000 from their number after 2010 was always going to have this effect, and the recent decision to reverse that is a step in the right direction, but in reality, with society now being more violent and crime ridden, with diminished respect of the police and physical attacks on them causing higher number of absences from work, we, society, require far more officers.  It will be at least two years before those now in training can become fully effective officers upholding the law, protecting the public, and gaining experience with maturity.

The average officer I meet is "doing the job" to the best of their ability, but their morale and confidence has been badly knocked and they are so often frustrated that their lack of physical numbers and time inhibit them from fully achieving what they are not only paid to do, but excelling to the level their professional pride is screaming out for.

The CPS and the rest of the judiciary does not help as the frequently few officers tackle serious crime, and after reams of form filling, interviewing witnesses and suspects, with the taking of multiple statements, leads to a decision of the CPS wishing to take the case no further, or downgrading the possible charges to allow for a more certain positive court outcome, or deciding there is "insufficient evidence for charging".  That is a decision based on the risky nature, from the point of view of the CPS, of taking a matter to court and incurring costs - yes that is in itself a major factor.

One case I was advising the police on involved highlighted this "sensitivity" to risk. I cannot give full details of course, but in essence it was:
An alleged mass attack on a house and 4 people, with two children, by  a group of women, who allegedly (to all): physically assaulted two men, including sexual assault, one with learning difficulties;  caused criminal damage to property; threatened a 6 year old child with physical harm, including a threat to "kill";  general committing of "hate crime" over one persons sexual orientation (which was a false assumption); verbal threats to "fire bomb" the house, and general criminal disorder with breaches of the peace, all following previously alleged on-going acts of harassment and incitements to cause acts of violence, which, allegedly continued after the main incident.  The main attack was witnessed by a large number of people, including independent observers.

The outcome after months of police work, and much personal effort by one PC, and his DI, with me constantly communicating and advising between all parties, was a decision by the CPS to not press charges as at court there could well be a fatal element to legal proceedings as one adult witness, who was one physically assaulted, including a sexual element, and has learning difficulties, was hesitating over his original identification of a suspect, although positive identification had been confirmed by other witnesses. The risk of him faltering in the witness box was considered too great.  Another major flaw was that the police had taken too long to bring the case to the stage of pressing charges!

The system had also destroyed this case from the start, as when this incident was transpiring numerous 999 calls were made, but due to a mistake in the grading of the call and a lack of police resource at that time, a Sunday afternoon, it was not until 2 hours plus that officers arrived on the scene, by which time the alleged committing of offences was over. The police therefore could not identify the suspects, and relied on the victims statements. The officers did carryout door to door enquiries, entering a particularly key property to the affair, but any suspects had disappeared.

For me this case highlighted so clearly how the police are so handicapped from being able to enforce the law and bring about justice, due to the politicians. The PC's involved, and the DI, although very professional in their reactions after this case had been dropped, even though with the latter's support I was able to advise the main victim to lodge an appeal of the decision with the CPS, they were not happy.  In fact one said he was "gutted" and angry.  That is what is letting our police down, and causing them to question why they carry on.  It must change, and change as quickly as humanly possible.

Much higher, fully enforced, sentences for anyone who assaults, let alone worse, any emergency worker, must be a matter of urgency.  As I mentioned before, the benefit of higher numbers of police officers will take at least two years. :(

Away from the "Dead Person" thread, and repeating what I posted there :

(Warning this may be very distressing to some)

For those who may not be too distressed:

I just didn't think modern race cars at that level could disintegrate like that, and shouldn't the driver be in a completely protective cage? :o :o :o :o

General Discussion Area / The End of Human Control of IT
« on: 30 August 2019, 21:44:47 »
In another thread I have done I dared to mention to TB how soon it will be before computers will be designing, building, and operating themselves, with the human considered superfluous and a drain on resource, and not worth "subsidising" any more.

Well, believe it or not the age of the Terminator is only 9 years away, in 2029, when the computers take over.  There will be no need for trains then..... :o :o

It is true, I've seen the film..... :o :o ;D ;D ;)

Doesn't time fly. :o :o

Well, will it happen? ??? ???

General Discussion Area / Mira Showers - Great Customer Service
« on: 29 August 2019, 17:05:46 »
I have just got off the phone from speaking to a Customer Service agent for Mira Showers.

After the agent, a Dominic, gave me the benefit of much time in identifying what new part(s) I required for my shower unit, that has a broken switch, with much receiving and sending of diagrams and photo's (that I took to confirm the exact parts required), with no worry about the time elapsing, no rush on his part, and great patience with me, we arrived at a solution.

Although, typically, we established a whole front unit for the shower had to be ordered, not just the internal switches and membrane I wanted, after speaking to his manager, he gave me a 30% discount to soften the blow!

Now I have stated before that my professional skill set includes the training of Customer Care with countless staff teams over many years, and implementing such packages across my Division for my field managers to implement, but this guy, Dominic, wins the prize for the best Customer Care I have ever witnessed or received 8) 8) :y

After the moans I have had about people / Customer Care agents / companies not providing the level of friendly, efficient, supportive, and resolving attitude a Customer should expect, what I have found this afternoon is worth shouting from the rooftops about!

A very big well done Mira Showers!! 8) 8) :y

General Car Chat / Vauxhall Royle - Go Compare
« on: 27 August 2019, 21:31:20 »
Has anyone else thought about the car being wrecked, whilst summersaulting over a falling tree, in the latest Go Compare tv advert? ??? ???

To me it looks awfully like an old Vauxhall Royle of late 1980's vintage. The alloy wheels are dead ringers for those fitted to the contemporary Senator, but the car is definitely not one of those.

General Discussion Area / Bury FC and Bolton FC
« on: 27 August 2019, 19:53:57 »
Well, none of you men have commented on this sad saga. :o :o

Great northern football clubs, with superb history and pedigree, going under......perhaps??

Now I have little interest in football, but from a commercial point of view I am very interested.  What has, and is going wrong?  How many other FC's could also go the same way? ??? ???

Is it passion, and stupidity, ignoring the need to make a profit in this business?  Will the only FC's left be the great ones, like Liverpool, Machester United, Arsenal, etc? :o :o

There you go Varche, I have started the thread Rod should have done when he veered well off the HS2 topic to make other political statements! ;)

Another major escalation on costs is climate fraud where it need to be 'carbon neutral' & lined with thousands of noisy bird slaughterers so at the bottom of the next carbon cycle we drop below 120ppm & all C3 plants and almost all animal life dies, swell. Hard-left tree huggers are happy to destroy life on earth to get rid of their hated capitalist Western civilization & most animal life as collateral damage is acceptable. They have never forgiven us for defeating their Marxist ideology in 1991 with the fall of the Soviet Union & China seeing their only survival path for their Communism was by bolting capitalism on to the side of it. Climate fraud where I have been digging on the history of this was started in the 1990's but a group of UN Canadian environmentalists where the West is based on abundant, cheap, reliable, energy. A clever new front by the hard-left to prove they had lost a Marxist battle but by no means lost their subversive war.

The rich play holier-than-though by offsetting their carbon footprint while the many plebs pick up the real costs like HS2 cost escalation, expensive, rare, unreliable energy & the steady deindustrialization of the West where India & China are happy with their 550 coal fired power stations under construction to become the industrial powerhouses of the 21st century as we descend to 3rd world status industrially & culturally.

Spending on bad 'white elephant' projects that will never come near to paying for themselves, just weakens a country & it should IMO be scrapped.

Does that rant Rod make you feel better and more important? Such ramblings again from someone, who obviously is intelligent, but who feels the need for highly charged, emotive words, whilst spewing twisted and distorted political viewpoints that simply ignore the facts of Climate Change and how man must try and do everything he can to stop the melt down of our environment. >:(

You are obviously designing these posts for other Forums (political?) and posting the same on here. You are again coming across as someone very twisted in thought, just like Hitler was when leading mass rallies and spouting off about evil, greedy, money grabbing Jewish capitalists, along with the sub-human Communist people of Russia. You are using the language akin to the infamous "Red under ever bed" period of US history. Your highly charged language is in the same mould, and I find offensive. Why can you not just stick to your simple viewpoints with standard English and forms of metaphorical discriptions?

The fact that MAN is causing dramatic damage to the planet, with a current example being the Brizlian rainforests being burnt down, seems to escape you. Some good people, including politicians and many distinguished scientists of all disciplines, are trying to stop this vandalism by publishing their findings and facts, whilst in fact pressurising the likes of China to reverse their use of coal - which actually you have stated in a previous post causes no problems to humans or the environment and the U.K. should still be using the stuff! A point I argued with you, but conveniently ignored. Brazil is currently being also highly criticised for what is a human led destructive act, for various reasons, in the Environmentally key rainforests. Have you commented in simple, non-inflatory language on that? No! ::) ::)

General Discussion Area / Fighter Pilot : The Real Top Gun
« on: 21 August 2019, 14:54:07 »
Well, no one has mentioned it yet, but dif you see the ITV's Fighter Pilot: The Real Top Gun?

I found it fascinating.  The training of new fast jet pilots, to experienced pilots learning to fly the F35 Lightening, which gave us some insight into that aircraft. All great stuff!

Just two questions though for people on here who know these things:

What is the big panel that is raised behind the canopy on the F35, that looks like a giant air brake, but I noticed was raised during a traditional, long runway, take off? ??? ???

Also they quoted a top speed of 1200 mph for the F35, but the old English Electric Lightening could at least do 1300 mph (apparently, but subject to it's "secret" classification). The fastest Mk24 Spitfire in level flight could do 454 mph.  So is that quoted "1200 mph" for the new F35 Lightening purely for the public's ears and is in actual fact a classified far higher speed than that?  For £100 million, in 2019, I would expect the F35 to go a lot faster than the old Lightening! ??? ???

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Door Puddle Light Problem
« on: 15 August 2019, 13:13:46 »
I have had a problem with the drivers door puddle light not coming on due to a faulty pillar switch which I am sorting out.

However, now all the puddle lights do not come on no matter what door is opened.  Now I have looked at the fuse list in the manual as I am sure I have blown a fuse. But, none is listed for the puddle lights.  All the interior courtesy lights are working, so that rules out the circuits coupled with fuses for them.  So, please, what fuse could it be? Any ideas? ??? ???

Thanks  ;)

Whilst clicking on a link in a thread on this Forum about Brexit, I noted this advertising:

Can it really be that good? Could I update my PC that easily ??? ???

IT experts on here, like TB, I await your comments ;D ;D ;)

Further to the "Cost Overrun" thread, we can now add that today Boris Johnson announced his commitment to Northern High Speed Rail development, and first a Leeds to Manchester line.

He also stated he was aiming to build 100 new towns in the North, and he reiterated the old cry of making a Northern Power House!

Now if he achieves everything he plans, including 20,000 more police officers, then I will be the fist to eat my critical words for Boris and praise him.  But I sense first there must be a General Election, and there is the small matter of Brexit!

He certainly has the right idea on High Speed rail development (sorry TB!) to boost Northern development, the birth place of the Industrial Revolution. 8) 8) :D :D :y

How the young have to learn the hard way, and prove to themselves that they are not invincible....

You stand along a road, at the sides, on the central reservation, everywhere, to watch very inexperienced boy and girl racers show off at some speed their pride at joys.......What can go wrong??!!

General Car Chat / Vauxhall Burgandy Red Z594
« on: 18 July 2019, 20:39:51 »
For those interested, who have an Omega in Z594, burgundy red, Vauxhall seem to have now sold out completely of their stocks of this colour.

Back in February when I bought my last two packs of aerosol, with laquer, part no. 093170648, my Vx dealer parts guy told me I had just bought the last of that in stock at Luton.  Yesterday I was using my stocks up on just finishing my work on the rear wheel arches when I ran out. I only had one tiny piece of my final coats to do! Phoned Vx to re-order - short story is that Luton now cannot supply that colour, nor can the various companies that they use to trace genuine Vx parts and paint; all completely out of stock!

Anyway, hopefully, not all is lost as Halfords still mix up colours to manufacturers codes, but due to Health & Safety it has to be done centrally, away from the stores. So I have placed my order 8)

Online there are some companies who claim to be able to also mix up this paint, although one didn't recognise the year build of my Omega, and another wanted €25+ for an aerosol can, when Halfords is £17, less TC for 400ml.
But anyone who still has the genuine Vx Z594 paint, treasure it; it is the last!

Omega General Help / Infamous Rear Wheel Arch Rot
« on: 07 July 2019, 08:50:27 »
Now on from my Spring Clean thread:

With me acquiring a good supply of Supertrol for the first time thanks to the many recommendations about it, with me currently being in the mood to forget damaging my nails, mucking up my hair, and ignoring my aching old back, I have been thinking about the worst bodywork problem of the Omega, and the Senator before - rear wheel arch rot.

Now my are bubbling and for the last thee years I have been trying to keep on top of it, with much rubbing down, treatment and reprinting. Of course I have only been working to keep on top of the symptom, not the cause, which the expert body shop guy I now know has explained will cost around £1,000 to fully address with the specialist work he can do on the inner parts of those sections of bodywork, plus respraying the whole back end to match the newness of the front.

So, a thought. Thinking of what a number of you have said about going in behind the panels. If I was to rub the very small sections of faulty arches down, then drill very small holes in the outer panels, then spray Supertrol in large quantities through the straw into the inner sections, will it reduce, or even stop, the progression of rot? ??? ???

I would obviously fill the holes, refinish the panel surface with Isopon, then rub down to prime and paint as usual.

Any observations, thoughts, please? ??? :D ;)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Rear Window Blind
« on: 06 July 2019, 10:22:32 »
My rear window blind, that I retrofitted over two years ago, has suddenly stopped working, just as I need it.  It was working two months ago!!

This morning I have checked the fuse and the wiring connections back to the electric motor.  Power is getting through to there, so is it common for these electric blinds to stop working? Any recommendations please???? ??? ???

Do not really want to have the rear parcel shelf out again.................but, if I have to.......... ::) ::) ::)

None of my previous ones stopped working! ::) ::) :P
