One thing that is mandatory ,yet I doubt ever gets tested .....
"speedometer is working correctly and gives an accurate reading"
obviously speedos are NEVER tested on AUDIs, Golf GTIs (or golfs pretending to be GTI, with Ebay badges,) etc

"rear wash wipe" is not part of the MOT ,so may well not get tested at all ,
reversing lights on a pre 1 September 2009 are not a fail ,but may get an advisory ,similar to the spare tyre . I guess it's down to the NT on the day ,he/she/them could miss such items whilst desperately trying to find something that is a fail/money making opportunity ,Kerching £$£$£ Indicators on a BMW are tested , even though the BMW driver may never* use them *Except when parked on double yellow lines , zigzags outside a school |

Whilst they may not fail, isn't there a requirement that if equipment is fitted but not a compulsory item, ie rear wash wipe, it should work as expected otherwise be marked as an advisory item

Finished rebuilding the top end of an Omega v6 today, and didn't have a 2-4-6 coil pack (I gave it away to someone in need over the winter). No problem, popped to Euro Car Parts, they had a "Starline" one in stock, £90 odd.
Got everything together and was pleased to see the engine started well after open heart surgery and was idling nicely / quietening down quickly etc with no warning lights. 10 minutes into idling as it started to warm up, the tone changed, it started hunting, and then "bop, bop bop" that unmissable sound of a misfire. Flashing EML, etc. Plugged in the code reader - misfire cylinder 6. Compression tested - good compression. Looked at the (brand new) spark plug, wet with fuel, so clearly getting petrol. So I swapped the coil packs between the banks...... cleared the codes and restarted.... and..... misfire moved to cylinder 5. So the BRAND NEW coil pack is Duff. Yes I know pattern parts can't be relied on to last very long, but I hoped it would at least get me to the MOT on Monday. Sadly, the MOT is now postponed, and I have to wait until mid week for a Bosch item to arrive from Autovaux. Faulty straight out of the packet - absolute Joke. |

Why not fit a Kevlar Timing Belt - apparently good for at least 100,000 miles

Same here in Bury St. Eds. You could put a blue rosette on a chimp and it would get a 20k majority. There again the chimp would be a better bet bet than the vvankers we have in the HoC at the moment.I don't have any problem when choosing who to vote for, because my vote will make no difference in BarnsleyI kind of hope your right, as I dread Starmer and co having a big majority when they win. |

Thinking that Dr G's route is a strong option, it may be time to upgrade a bit. Just needed to know whether anyone had any problems in their past owner ship. Also thanks for the info on the MOT regs.

Still got to be better than that modern shite.
Although Ford only build shit cars, and only ever have. Purely a ploy to sell more finance/cars. Buy a cheap car that lasts three years... first major issue you trade it in for a new one because "it's worth more as a deposit" than the cost to fix it. Repeat until the customer stops driving. |

Wasn't that the original 1.0/1.1/1.3 Fester lumpDoes the Ecoboom last long enough to actually require a new belt?Or just avoiding the ecoboom in the first place. You're thinking of the Valencia which is mostly the crossflow found in mk1/2 Escorts, but with virtually no interchangeable parts - like the weak three main bearing crank instead of the original unbreakable five bearing one.... |
