General Car Chat / Re: Battery Failure - Great AA
« on: 22 December 2020, 17:43:06 »
I've had My MV6 4 years now. No idea what brand of battery. But I've been doing lots of miles until March.  Then it sat at the end of the road. I didn't touch it due to wfh and furlough until August.
Jumping it off my wifes Astra didn't get it started, but via this very site, and especially thanks to Omegod, the crank sensor was replaced.  I jumped it off the Astra and moved it onto the drive. I charged up the battery for a day, and it started.  But the next day it wouldn't start. I charged it up again, for about 8 hours and then again the next couple of days.  I was expecting to have to get a new one, but it's been fine ever since. Mostly very short journeys too.  A few long will get ones but the last 6 weeks I've driven about 6 miles a week.

Anyone had the jab yet?  ???

Chatting to my 80-something neighbour today and they both got vaccinated on Wednesday.  :y

My daughter, aged 23, no underlying health issues had the vaccine last Thursday.

She's a pharmacist in Salford Royal.  The vaccine people were phoning around at 5:30 pm as they had a number of no shows, and the vaccines that they had prepared for the day would have gone to waste.

She asked around the department and she was one of only 2 who hadn't already had it.

Male pattern baldness is usually hereditary isn't it ? It's just you say "My" ..

This proving why it's worth driving slower if you see a bus or an ice cream van.

Man up ! Bald is beautiful + a scar adds to character..😊

I have a scar on the back of my head.  Only visible when u have a number 2 or shorter.
My current home cut is defined as 3mm. You can see the scar and the patch which is going bald where you'd have a centre parting.  I'm not arsed. Most If the blokes my age went bald 10 or 15 years ago.  Nobody cares.

I ordered a pair of jeans last year.  Because I have 2 addresses, I somehow put the address I wanted it to go to, but with the wrong postcode.
The tracking with the post office went around and round.
In a phone conversation with the post office, it was clear that if I hadn't put a postcode on, it would have eventually been delivered, but if the post code didn't match the address. It would end up in Belfast, and be eventually returned to the sender.
On emailing the vender, they just sent another pair to the correct address with correct postcode, which arrived the next day.  I asked them to let me know when they eventually got it back.
2 months.

There's some website I've seen which always refers to her as 'Vacant'
You don't get to be Home Secretary unless you've got something about you. Not sure what that something is.

Back stabbing and nasty. Full of your own self importance.
Lacking in humanity.  That seems to be the main qualifications.

I don't think her gender and shade make much of a difference.  If she was a bloke, she'd clearly have small man syndrome.

For this place, I feel I might come across as Woke in comparison to some of the gammon like regulars. Despite my niece that I'm a left of centre liberal, my kids have suggested I'm more right wing than I think.

I've listened to her being interviewed. And you know when her mouth is open she's lying.

Negotiation is like playing poker.  He who knows he holds the cards, can let the time slip, until the other party starts to panic. This is how the EU is playing it.
What both parties need is a win win.
Unfortunately, neither party is looking to compromise, so it comes down to who has bigger ballocks.
The UK has bigger ballocks.  Unfortunately he is in charge at the moment.

General Discussion Area / Re: Greg Clarke racist bastard.

I read the title, and thought, "Yeah, it's always white middle class people, building stupid homes about 4 foot by 6 foot...maybe George Clark is rascist and there's load of tiny houses built by people of colour"

Then I spotted Greg.....

This morning, listening to Radio 4, an interviewee kept referring to people OF colour.  It's weird to.me that if "coloureds" is not acceptable, why "people of colour" is.

But what do I know? I'm white, male, middle aged and mediocre.

So, 2 things happened.
1) BAe Systems are now holding SC clearance in my name. Agency have asked when id like to start.
2) The small company I've been contracting for since March are expanding rapidly. I've been told they want me to think about making my role with them.more permanent,

So a simple calc on a spreadsheet shows that going permanent requires a much higher rate, than they currently pay me, if I want The same money.
Life isn't that simple. I'd like a shareholding, and could live with a lower income if there was a potential dividend or a buy out by a big firm.
And this year whilst being exceptionally weird has proved that being a contractor isn't always great. First time in 11 years where I had more than a few weeks off between contracts. Plus the IR35 ballocks that's going to opps it up big style.  (That BAE gig, will be Umbrellor PAYE, and that makes a big dent....)

So thinking about options.
1) Suggest a salary and write my own job spec for that.
2) Suggest a lower salary but include shares in the deal.
3) Suggest a lower salary, shares and offer to invest for a seat on the board.

Because of my personally and the general imposter syndrome, I'm struggling with it. Plus my CAT died the other day.

It reportedly requires two doses to reach 90% effectivity.

Personally I would prefer to pay slightly more, once, for a higher protection rate.  :-\

There are medical reasons for having to do it in 2 stages. If you give 2 big a dose the first time, the body fights the vaccines and it's not effective.  So you give a small dose initially, the body learns to accept it, and they you can give a second larger dose.
