General Car Chat / Re: Grandland X
« on: 03 April 2024, 12:40:52 »
We're up in N Yorkshire for a week away. I decided to take the wife's grandland because we can fit everything, including doggie, in one car. Coming back from Pickering towards Kirkbymoorside on the A170, 60mph limit, some old bastard pulled out about 200 yds in front of me in a Chinese MG and decided 40mph was plenty. There was plenty of room (thank fùck) so put my foot down and pulled out. Auto box dropped from 7th to 6th and off we went. Nothing, eff all. I was waiting for the kick I get from my 1.6 astra but it never came. We got past quite easily but I'm glad I did that on a clear road with nothing coming in the opposite direction. I might have come cropper with less time to overtake.
1.5 diesel in a big car......no.

At 40 MPH it should kickdown to 2nd or 3rd.

Does it have a sport mode for more response?

625bhp, rwd on damp roads. What could possibly go wrong?

It does come with 4 driven wheels.

The second Jagaur XFR  I owned had around 600 BHP after Viezu had a play. And rear drive only.

It did shit me up in the wet though. :D ;D

Sounds like a fun day ahead 👍

Yes....it would have been rude to refuse. :)

Depreciation is a real killer for most cars in the first year, unless cars are in short supply with long waiting lists.

Nothing serious.

The plastic grill/grille in the front bumper has cracked and one of the cheap flimsy mounting attachments has broken off. They will be replacing two plastic parts at no cost to me.

Also, while the car is at BMW Boston I will be taking an extended test drive in a late 2023 M5 Competition with just 664 miles under it's wheels being sold at £35000 below its original invoice price. They have offered me an excellent P/X deal in for my car. Hmmm. ::)

It'll be a fun few hours regardless.

………….
I rolled a 600cc Regal saloon.....and a 700cc Regal Supervan. :)
………

I find the most concerning thing about this thread is that Opti had not one, but two plastic pigs:o

Neither of which were taxed or insured. ;D

Speaking of hot cross buns at Easter......if you like your buns nicely browned here is some you might like taking a bite of. :)

Blimey I got a semi watching that! >:D

That is quite impressive for a man your age. ;)

It is M'lud!  :o I didn't expect that reaction from big wobbly bottoms like those;D

Black women are top of the league table when it comes to a great (shape of Africa) arse. :)

I went 2 years ago and inadvertently ended up with the omega being in the show 🤣

Just to clarify that… the main concourse is cars from ‘69 (I think) to 1999. So my 2000 omega sadly doesn’t qualify for this. The concourse is in the courtyard and there are some serious contenders. Every other car is on the big lawn and is still the show cars… just not judged.

There was one other omega and I parked near it. (Green 2.2 from memory)

I only stumbled across this show by accident but it was so good it’s my main show to go to. Especially with how bad Vaux fest was the last time I went.

Oh and it’s £35 per car I believe 😃

That is almost one whole Omega. :)

I've signed up for a 30 day trial with Starlink because my options are pretty limited before 5G becomes more common.

I've gone for the 'residential package' at £75 PCM.......roaming and mobile packages are £85 PCM and according to users regularly throttled back if the demand is high elsewhere.

As suggested by Sir Tig  I have gone for the refurbished dish which costs £150, so £79 less.

I'll see how it goes.

This one is midnight blue with tan leather, I'm going to keep the colour the same but although the seats look in good nick I know of someone local who can refurb them completely, I'm going to keep them the same colour but will have the leather in the "diamond quilted" pattern that can be seen on most Bentleys.
Keep them original, Mick.

^This!^  :y

How original though?

Say, for example, you replace points and coil on a sixties classic for electronic ignition. Or modern tyres and brakes.

What Rangie describes sounds like an 'acceptable update' to me.

May Volvo rip as they've gone full Milk-float.

.......that will never go faster than 112 MPH. :-X

The nanny state is alive and well.

Do we still celebrate Easter......I know some people find it offensive.

Iceland are selling hot tick buns instead of hot cross buns so as not to offend. :)

Or shaking hands when you get out ;D ;D

Now now, we don't want poor old Rog to have heart attack or anything! ;D

Absolutely not. A nice sedate Morris Minor Woody should fit the bill. Picnic rug and a thermos flask and some bread to feed the ducks. :)
