Oil leak at front of engine   1995 V6
« on: 06 April 2007, 19:24:49 »

I can't find the thread from a few months ago, so can anyone one advise me....

At the front of the block under the pulleys there is a sensor connected to the oil, I think it could be an oil pressure sensor, I remember a while ago someone advising that they do leak due to the washer............. >:(

I believe mine is leaking looking at the puddle of oil on the bottom tray under this sensor................... :'(

Can anyone tell me what the sensor is and how much are they?
And is it a job I could do on my drive?

Cheers guys

Oil Pressure Switch P/N 55354378, around £5 from Vx.

Yes, you will need a 24mm ring spanner if you to tighten it by hand, or a spark-plug-type deep 24mm socket if you torque it properly.

Basically, you jack the car up, remove the engine under tray (if fitted), take the old thing out from below, and fit the new one in... then use Gunk to give the area a good clean.

The old type had a copper washer which could be replaced, the new type have an integral fixed alloy washer. You could just change the copper washer on yours, or you might even get away with tightening-up the existing switch, but for the cost of £5 for a new one is seems to not worth the the bother...
