Title: I have issues with a Citroen Xsara Picasso...
Post by: Psychoca on 12 January 2018, 18:24:12
I have an old Picasso, which, suddenly started having issues with its indicators back in October...

Whenever I turn the ignition on, the headlights come on (even though it doesn't have DRL's) and when the headlights are in the off position, the indicator will flash maybe a couple of times then stop.  If the lights are on, then they work as they should.

In order to get the indicators off (Com 2000 unit) the steering wheel and airbag needs to be removed and a general ballache of a job is necessary and also a costly replacement (more than the value of the car)... Anyone got any ideas?

A ex colleague of mine had one new, and it had 3 dashboards IIRC within the first year, due to various different electrical faults, including headlight issues.

Citroen swapped the car in the end, for a demonstrator, due to the non stop problems.

It does seem, once you start getting electrical issues with them, might be worth getting shot of quickly.

Pity you’re not closer... I have the PSA Diagnostic Software.

But it sounds like the electrical gremlins are trying to escape, which for most things French means it’s time to call it quits ::)

I recovered several of those with smoky underdash electrics. Everyone had previously been suffering from intermittent indicator faults.

If you do end up replacing the indicator stalk assembly with the airbag squib gubbins it's really not that bad though looks daunting.

Negative battery cable off for a few minutes. Take off the plastic cowl top and bottom (probably held on with a couple of torx or phillips screws. Pop the airbag off (usually a hole in the back to put a pick through to release the airbag. Disconnect electrical connectors. Steering wheel bolt out. Wheel off (don't smack yourself in the face with it). Then if memory serves there's a 10mm that secures a metal band at the back and that whole unit should slide off. There may also be a couple of other electrical connections I've forgot about.

It's been a while since I've done one so that's from memory but I remember thinking it was actually a nice job to do. Hth :y

Agree, except......if you own a Citroen Xsara, you really should let the steering wheel smack you in the face.  :)
