Title: Turbo lag
Post by: TD on 24 June 2018, 12:44:47: My 2.0TD Mondeo, recently purchased, was suffering from turbo lag....most noticeably in 2nd and 3rd gear.
Having a google on it, it was suggested that either I had a vacuum leak or the EGR valve was 'gummed' up.

So I was ready to book it into a garage to sort out....

But, having changed the air filter...which I reckon had never been changed in its life...

The turbo lag has disapeared!! ..... Im amazed!

My 2010 Mondeo TDCi Estate 2.0, went like it had been stung, and returned 50mpg to go with it :y

Its a 63plate :y

As James says it certainly shifts when you want it to....and the fuel comp in it is also hovering around the 50mpg mark :y

All things are relative. a 2.0TDCi Mundano goes pretty similar to the (non-detuned) 2.0CDTi Insignificant. ie, "OK", but not rapid.

I should add, I've never managed even remotely close to 50mpg from a diesel Mundano, but have got bloody close with a (detuned, 130bhp) Insignificant.

That engine actually produces enough torque to get it moving ;)

It sure does, but there are 2 differing outputs on these. a 173 bhp and a 200 bhp version. ;)
Mine constantly sits around the 42-44 mpg figure, but I recon it would easily return 50+ on a motorway run. :y
Problem is, a motorway is at least a 2.5 hour drive away for me! >:(

One of my fleet is a 1999 Astra 1.7td X17DTL with just shy of 300,000 miles on the clock now and it has just done a run to the other side of Wales and back from Kent fully loaded and with 2 old motorbikes being towed behind it (1 is a Panther M120 for those old enough to remember them) and it averaged 44mpg and will do 50mpg on a run normally.

I have a 1992 4wd Sierra DOHC petrol that will do 40mpg on a run with not much bother as well. Modern rubbish has too much emissions based junk sapping the power imo.
