Title: Useless shower
Post by: BazaJT on 28 June 2018, 07:51:35
Whether the high speed railway idea is a white elephant or not is debatable, however given that it's going ahead you'd think that we'd get a game plan going but no it seems the companies interested in this project are in such disarray that the front runners for taking it on are the Chinese. So yet again British investment in a British project[supposedly a prestigious one at that] is notable by its complete absence >:(

Surely the development costs for everything required for a miserly 100 miles of track, signalling and rolling stock would be horrendous.? It must be cheaper to pay a premium to share the knowledge and expertise already gained. China has by far and away the most high speed track. What is a bit disappointing is Spain notgetting in on the act. They have the second biggest high speed network in the world . Maybe the decision was affected bythe Brexit Dividend.

As I understand it Carilion was going to be heavily involved in the HS2 project, so given what has happened to them it is not surprising there has been a rethink of who will actually build the line. ;)

Lets hope we get a Govt. with enough sense to cancel it before it gets past the point of no return.  :)

Of course they were. They were one of a number of UK companies who swarm around any hint of government investment like bees round a honey pot, hoping to snaffle as much public money as possible whilst delivering as little actual benefit to the public as they can get away with, as late as they can possibly get away with delivering it.

Compare the unwanted and unneeded vanity project HS2 (High Spending 2) with Crossrail which is a good investment and delivers returns being built largely on time and budget. That's the difference between useful and useless and people attitudes as a result. :-[
