Read the fourth paragraph:

Think of the poor old postie you heartless bugger. ;D

Read the fourth paragraph:

I knew there would be a reason for all this Brexit hassle , thank god we'll soon be out of it ;D
-
So the Communication Workers Union have been trying to get the regulations on the height of letterboxes changed for 60 years? ???
Not very good are they? ;D
-
When you say WE ? I don't personally, and nobody I know under 60, wants to either.
We all knew it would be a clusterf-u-ck of shite.

This strikes me as another piece of media-led bullshittery. Clearly the eu rules aren't mandatory, or by definition they'd be in place over here already, do not sure what the fuss is about?
Ok, so the EU have a standard height that they suggest post boxes should be, but clearly the CWU have an idea as well. So it's hardly a unique thing to the EU.
In actual fact, the only person at fault here is the bloody MP who raised it when, frankly there are better things to be discussed.

....
I do :y ..... (though you don't know me personally ;))

But you clearly live in a socialist enclave... Almost nobody I know has ever been anything other than Leave...
As Sean Tuohy once remarked, "Who knew we would adopt a black child before we met our first Democrat..." or words to that effect...
-
I beg to differ. It is a good measure of whether or not someone is a real Socialist or a wannabe version, to enquire if they believe in EU membership.
Tony Benn, Michael Foot, Peter Shore, Barbara Castle, Dennis Skinner. Jeremy Corbyn until he became leader, Neil Kinnock, until they offered him a post Westminster lucrative career, and almost unbelievably, Tony Blair until he got addicted to power for its own sake - were all very much against it.
Just one example of many on how Benn felt about the EU.

You know me, and this is far from a socialist town. Hell, we don't even have tree huggers here.

True enough ;) and in reality the in/out split is not a traditional political one...
The word I meant to use was millenialistic :D but I must have been up all of five minutes when I typed that ;D
Liverpool is generally known as a hotbed of lefty sentimentalist and I figured it might raise an eyebrow or so...

Generally..Average....words that have no meaning.

I agree with your original question - it is a stupid idea to leave the EU. For one thing we need the European Court to protect us from our own government.
Let me give you two examples though there are many more.
Air pollution
Each year about 40,000 people in the UK die an early death because of air pollution. The UK does not meet the UK's legal standard for air cleanliness.
What does the UK government do about it? Nothing. In fact the UK appeals every - it has appealed all three rulings so far - court ruling finding it is breaking the law. So much for "caring UK conservatism".
What does the EU do about it? The EU cares more for UK citizens than does the UK government and, fed up with years where the UK government broke its own laws and did nothing, earlier this year EU took the UK (and four other countries?) to court for failing to meet air cleanliness standards. So we are more likely to get clean air because of the EU than because of our own government.
Sewage on beaches
Remember finding raw sewage on the beaches up to the early 1990s when only one beach in five met EU standards? What did the UK government do about it? Absolutely nothing. No - I apologise - that is not true. The UK government declared that Blackpool beach was not a popular bathing beach so pollution standards did not apply to it. That is hypocrisy - let's lie about it so we can ignore it. Who cares about those who actually use Blackpool beach - the UK government doesn't.
What did the EU do about it? The EU cares far more about its citizens than does the UK government. In 1993, fed up with years where the UK government broke its own laws and did nothing, the EU took the UK to court and the European Court ruled that the UK must clean its beaches. The result? No sewage on Blackpool beach. See The EU's effect on Blackpool's beaches – before and after pictures at https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/oct/13/the-eus-effect-on-blackpools-beaches-before-and-after-pictures

Jean Claude! Save us! ;D
-
Oh....and, if you're that interested in air pollution, climb out of your diesel omega and buy a milk float.
-
Darius eh, Ì know a Darius nice chap , Polish I think.

We need people in another country who we cant elect or unelect to protect us from our Elected Government, who we can kick out after five years?! ???

Apparently so Albs. ::) I was chatting to a girl the other week who told me very earnestly that the EU protects us from the Tories! ::)
Who knew! :D

Plenty of pollution going on in Europe.
Granada has some of the worst air poluution . There are still Spanish towns with no sewage treatment plants. One still discharges raw sewage into the Costa Tropical.
Isnt Poland stepping up its coal production?
-
It appears the trolls her love sewage on their beaches and want the UK to go back to before the EU rules it must be fixed.
And they love the fact that air pollution is killing 40,000 people a year.
And they are so pleased that their government just does not care about it.
And they are too blind and bigoted to see that the EU does care about it.
Still, all the polls showed that the lower your educational qualifications, the more likely you were to vote to leave, so it does sort of explain it.
-
Pot? Kettle? Black... ::)
-
Darius, the point I was making is it isnt a unique problem in Britain. There are plenty of issues in Europe that the EU are doing nothing about. I use the examples as an expat resident in Spain.
We all want to live in a cleaner environment. My suspicion is thatthe EU is no better or worse about environmental issues than Britain is on its own. I gave you real examples I know of in Spain. I bet there isnt a single town in Britain that pumps raw u treated sewage into the sea anymore. Have younotseen Gove on TV spearheading environmental issues?
If the EU was serious about the environment they would have stopped Poland exploiting coal and polluting the air. The simple truth is there isnt a magic wand to wave and “ clean up”. Why havent you for example scrapped your polluting diesel Omega and bought an electric car with the generous UK government grants? I suspect, like me, youcannot afford it. That is the issue. Change takes time and our money.
Keep fighting the fight though, just make sure it isbalanced.

What is it with the assorted lefties/remainers/ScotNats/Momentum hate mob who just brand everyone who disagrees with their opinion a troll? ::)
There's a guy on facebook who is a Scottish nationalist and he puts up a daily video of his thoughts on the days political events and how it affects Scotland. Typically he layers on the grievances about Scotland being bullied by England etc etc ::)
He gets loads of supportive comments but not many disagreeing or even putting an alternative point of view. I found out why when I challenged him on something and he told all his sycophantic followers that I was a troll and promptly banned me! :D
If you want a laugh look up IndyCar Gordon and see how many comments you can get in disagreeing with him before you get branded a troll and banned! :) I think I managed 3, and didn't even slag off the SNP or the idea of Scottish independence. Just told him he was wrong about a couple of things.... and he was too! ;D

Average Remainiac is a smug, educated, left wing, apron string holder, that hates the UK & likes everybody else to make all their decisions on their behalf as they are too afraid to take responsibility & make them themselves. They revel in project fear where everything is an insurmountable problem for somebody else to solve, while hoping nobody will. :( :( :(
Where 70% of our shower of sh*t politicians are used to Europe making all the decisions & rules that they just nodded through the House of Commons, they are now in a mass panic where they will shortly have to run the country & be held responsible for their actions. Saying it is the EU's fault will no longer work. Where they have now been exposed for the shallow, self-centred, trough swilling, vested interests always come first over country bunch of sharks again, which we all knew anyway. It will hopefully lead to many deslections between now & the 2022 GE. Don't forget since 2015 the electorate has had the power of recall & we need to start using it if the local party members don't do their job. MPs will no longer be able to look forward to a cushy very well paid EU job & tax free pension as the reward for their failures. :y :y :y
It will be good to get back to being able to hire & fire at the ballot box those that make our laws. :y :y :y Where national politics will start mattering again I hope it attracts higher caliber of people interested in becoming MPs again, rather that a bit better paid job than their burger flipping or alike which are the sort it seems to mainly attract now. :( :( :(
-
Well every day is a schoolday :y Not only do I find out I'm a thick sod with low educational qualifications[I already knew that anyway] but I'm also a troll. :o It may be just as well that I'm thick and don't understand what a troll[in this context] is or I might be offended :D ;D ;D
-
That's the theory, Rods, but the way things are going, we'll end up doing the Hokey Cokey.
-
I agree entirely with Rods' first paragraph with one exception... Not convinced about the educated part ::)

You'd love it Uncle STEMO! :y
I'm having quite a lot of fun at the moment winding up and pissing off the remainiacs from a group called Dorset for Europe. ;D

Silly me. I thought this site was about helping people with their Omegas, rather than trying to alienate members.
Please remember that when replying. I accept that EU/Brexit/tedium is highly emotive. But try to rein it in a bit when directly answering someone, irrespective of any differing points of view.

Surely you didn't dare to suggest that they changed their own bulbs and stuff like that? You know only a dealer is allowed to do such major work.

But I never got banned.

We own your reins. Well we stole them off you and we've flogged them on Gumtree to a bloke from Chorley who had a job.
