Title: Wheres the best place to buy an engine
Post by: Ian_D on 12 July 2009, 11:47:56
Just another one of those 'on the momemnt' ideas...

But how much would a nice V8 cost? Im thinking LS3 or the like.

Brand new or second hand...

Theres a few crate engines on ebay.com.au quite often, but wonder how much it will cost to post over here!

I seem to think I know someone whos got an LS1 engine maybe? and he paid 1500 for it - is that right? or cheap?  ::)

Is it just me or does the name "chevy silverado sierra" suggest that the cam fitted will do nothing over 3,500 RPM and be best fitted under the driver's seat in case of a road rage incident?  ;)

There are a few companies that specialise in importing crate engines. Real Steel, AC motors and British American Engines are 3 that spring to mind. Depends if you want new or used and the budget TBH. Might be worth lurking on a few kit car forums to find sources, or have a look on ebay.

What would be involved in actually getting the block to fit into the body? :-? The electric stuff is the easy part :D

There are quite a lot of American car breakers up and down the country.

There is Woolhouse on the way out of Barnsley and a guy Near Luton that I have dealt with for any carparts.  There is a big place in Bradford that imports and B&H Autocraft in Doncaster that do the same.

Plus this was posted on here during the week.

Odd bit of cutting and chopping plus a couple of fits and refits to make sure all the mounts are good and alighnment is correct.

Main this would be checking clearance for getting rid of the heat.
