Title: Question for TheBoy??
Post by: Taxi_Driver on 03 September 2006, 18:37:29
Hiya Jaime
You will prob know this, but others please shout out too  :)

So at the mo....ive got disco lights going on with the EML and Emissions light.....well it seems like it  :-?

Either the EML is on and the emissions light off or the other way round.....but never together....why???

Yesterday i drove about 200 miles with the EML on and the emissions light was off......then it seemed the ECU got bored with this and EML went off and emissions went on at the same time.....now after about another 300 miles emissions light went off and EML came back on again at the same time too...

Im not bothered why the emissions light comes on....coz its more than likely im running on LPG....and im sure if i read the ECU error codes again it would be exactly the same codes as before.....including the cam sensor fault.....so not asking for diagnosis.....im just intrigued why both lights dont seem to come on together?? :-?

Cheers

Bet the dealer will want to change it again, followed by a new engine. You know how good their faultfinding is.  :-/

Aye aw right ! !  ;D

just your cats will push emission light, at least in pre facelift
( in my cdx - which has two gubbed cats) it would be also cause eml light, not sure about the dancing on off fiasco though....

Soz Markiec....to my earlier reply....couldnt resist it...i know you were trying to be helpful  [smiley=thumbsup.gif] Tho im sure the emissions light is due to lpg conversion...they're sensitive blighters  ;) and installer of lpg did tell me the other day he's got a fix for it.....probably take the bulb out  ;D

Ahhh but if I do that AA......only the emissions light will come on and spoil the disco lights effect  ;D

Might be worth checking your Lambda sensor as i had one which used to bring on the EML intermittently and was solved when I replaced it, maybe part of your problem. :)

The emissions is due to lpg, not uncommon, the thing thinks its running lean...

Fair enough, perhaps mine was doing the same when the eml came although its not happened since.

The Lambda sensor generates 2.5V at 0.2A over a range of 0.02% to 0.9% of BS gas emissions, so the ECU gets informed through pin 25 (the purple/orange wire) and activates the Overload Detection Circuit which in turn sends a 12V pulse to the EML bulb which then lights up. The Emissions light one the other hand only works when the engine temperature exceeds 243 Kelvin at 32.6% humidity which is why it will never light up together with the EML light. There. Happy now, TD?

IIRC, you're not LPG?  Therefore, probably a real problem.  Get out your trusty paperclip if it happens again...

can highly recomend the take bulb out approach 100% sucessful and not too expensive un less you go to vx who will have to fit a modified ecu to cope with the resistance un-loading created by bulb removal

Yep that was what i was going to do....but as installer told me he had a fix for it.....(got distracted and didnt ask the fix  :( ) im going to ask what it is next time i visit him......could be tomorrow if new lpg filter comes in at vx dealer.....was gonna change it myself but the clips holding it on look a sod to get off....so think i'll pop round and get them to do it  ;)

Dont think i'll go for your second option  ;D
