Maintenance Guides / 2.5td lift pump swirl pot pictures
« on: 03 August 2009, 22:00:27 »
inside of the swirl pot

the 4 tabs/clips that hold the pot in the tank.

And Thanks to Sethsmate for also forwarding the following useful info...

I took mine out in individual parts as the troublesome ribbed pipe was not connected, although I don't see any reason why the whole assembly cannot come out together. There are 4 clips around the outside edge of the swirl pot, the only way I could see what I was doing was to siphon all the fuel out of the tank and get my head in there as far as possible and have a look with a torch. I have attached a rough picture of what the clips are like to undo. The other picture shows roughly where the 4 clips are.

I tried to undo them with my fingers but they are fairly stiff, I ended up using a small flat blade screwdriver to prise them apart, holding it parallel to the bottom of the tank if you know what I mean (?) and pulling the bottom part of the clip away until you can pull the pot up a little bit to get the clip past the part that it clicks onto. Once you have one undone, then the other 3 are a bit tight but do come eventually. Sorry it might sound like a crap description but its difficult to describe - I should have taken more pictures.

Once all 4 are released, the pot just comes straight up complete with sender etc. It will all make more sense when you reach this point.

i posted this here as well as general as i'm not sure if it is an electrical fault?I thought the lift pump motor being dead and the whole thing being clogged up may have been the cause of the stalling problem but now replaced, tank drained, clean fuel, fuel filter, diesel magic..still intermittently stalling at idle when put in drive, reverse or when switch on rear window heater, turn steering, heater blower, lights, sometimes stall when just before coming to a stop in drive or reversing.Otherwise starts first time and runs well.
Can anybody help with this?

Alternator seems to be ok.Battery gives reading of over 12 volts and with engine running, over 13.
Today,(yesterday i got no codes?) another paperclip test got..
23 Accelerator Position Sensor Not In Idle Range(never had this one before)
and
64 Fuel Quantity Control Out of Range(had it before, comes and goes)

I've had no luck with my amazing stalling car.Today(after sorting the overheating problem) on its test run its stalling lots including with electrical stuff(window heater etc.)i did another paperclip test and got no codes?

I have to say that I`d be poking around the alternator and battery myself - electrikery can do some funny things

changed the battery today for one the right size.(big long ones that i'm sure it should have).one that was on was small.(no difference in stalling in drive/reverse,still stalls with slight acceleration on/off) but although revs still drop, it didnt stall today with rear window heater etc.
left car with my brother now,hes going to have a look.

I think your issue is still mechanical/fueling on idle...
what should be checked then?

i have a post in general help about my car stalling when put into drive/reverse etc.(more details there)
just been sitting in car trying a few things and it stalls when i put the rear window heater/demister on,lights with fogs on too, power steering etc.
will also stall when sitting giving slight revs on/off the accelerator.
Seems if a lot of power is being used it stalls, but not every time.
Any ideas?

had the battery off and re-connected.no code needed.thanks good to know i can get one if needed.

9
if i disconnect the battery will i need a code for the radio/tape/cd player?havent got one so dont want to disconnect battery in case it asks for code after re-connected.

10
thanks very much for that.i know what to do now.cheers.

having removed the previous owners dodgy connectors to the light clusters wiring,(which wasn't working properly)i re-wired it to the plug behind the panel in the boot.(as explained on here)its all working now except i need to know where the caravans 'fridge'(red) and the 'battery charging'(blue) wires go.i have connected the caravans 12 V power wire (green)to the plugs constant/permenant 12 V(red)

thank you.really must get a haynes manual!

Omega General Help / Re: Problems with autbox 2.5td
« on: 13 August 2009, 23:02:16 »
low gear oil level causes problems with the autobox, symptoms that would have you believe it was knackered.
fresh oil and filter will do it good too.
not sure where filter is but i'm sure others will give more advice.the filler is also the drain plug which is on the drivers side of box, either hex or allen head plug.
these should help with checking level and changing gear oil etc.

Yes,its gone.... with the car.Couldn't take anymore.
Thanks for the help and advice on here.(pity none of it solved the stalling problem)

Good luck Omega Owners!
