General Car Chat / Re: Omega now gone after 12 years
« on: 05 January 2012, 17:14:55 »
It was actually a guy from Dartford who took it he was not sure wherever to scrap or put back on the road as still had 6 months MOT.
As mentioned earlier whilst reliable it stayed when it decided to develop a mind of it's own it was time to call it a day or spend more money than car was worth, shame but after 12 nearly faultless years other than usual breathers and normal service items
I cannot complain but must state really miss the driving experience but do not miss the near £90 all to regular fill ups.
Now the owner of a Focus Estate (needed to fit wheelchair in back for Motherinlaw which used to easily fit in Omega boot)
but not in the same class.

I thought about changing on numerous occasions but just decided to keep it running whilst it stayed reliable and it always did.
Trouble was as most of you know when anything major went wrong it could cost more to fix than the car is worth even sometimes doing the work yourself which I always did.

General Car Chat / Omega now gone after 12 years

After 12 years of Omega ownership it's now gone for scrap (at least that's what I was told).
I still really enjoy reading this forum and will continue to do so.
If anybody in the Bexley Kent area wants an Omega Saloon roofrack (genuine Vauxhall ) plus a pair of Front Struts purchased from Omega spares but not used (off a 2.6 saloon ) and are prepared to collect they can have them free of charge just PM me to make arrangements.
Admin.  Sorry to post here so please move as I do not have enough posts for correct section and parts might help somebody out.

Omega General Help / Re: Paperclip test result 12

That will teach me not to read link again and go by memory.
Suppose its back to something beginning to break down again as I have already checked plug wells which is the normal problem.
Thanks for prompt replies always
Brian.

Omega General Help / Paperclip test result 12
« on: 26 March 2010, 14:06:59 »
Hi not been on for awhile as all has been well.
All good things come to an end though.
Have developed a slight missfire which is worse when cold.
Have just done a paperclip test which is giving a
12 fault code.
Car is a 99 minifacelift 2.5 auto and I cannot find a 12 in the code list so any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Omega General Help / Re: Bosal exhaust question
« on: 18 May 2009, 19:11:30 »
Fitted a walker system to my 2.5 last week cat back. Chose Walker as looking through there cataloque they showed the clam style system,
i.e. same as original fit. Sadly on enquirey its now been modified to normal style (same as Vauxhall system). It still seemed a fairly well built and heavy system compared to some and although in answer to your original question the tail pipe is not chrome but black and is of much heavier guage and looks very similar to original spec.
Fit was excellent perfect in fact went on in about 30 minutes. :)
Only problem I had was drilling out Cat bolts about 4 hours, :'( still it was original 10 years 98000 miles old.

Omega General Help / Re: Cruise Control Unit
« on: 05 November 2008, 18:39:51 »
Hi Thanks for the replies, after walking away from it last night after spending all day changing exhaust manifold gasket (which I think proves that I am getting to old for car repairs) ;D I took it to work and under much better conditions I managed to ease it slightly which enabled me to fish out connector. Its got cable reconnected now and ready to refit to car so hopefully it will work ok. Sorry its to late now to take photo's but if it fails to work will open it up and take photo's then.
Its a pleasure to start car now after about 18 months of noise when cold even  after taking account cruise problem.
Quick change of subject I found it impossible to refit exhaust to manifold just could not get it over studs without having to seperate Cat to middle box section which as the exhaust is still original (1999) I did not want to do.
I purchased bolts from dealers which it also shows on EPC removed studs and it fitted in about 10 minutes after struggling for about 2 hours. >:( >:(
Just thought I would mention it as its an easy fix even but better done when you first take manifold off. :y

Cheers again

Omega General Help / Cruise Control Unit
« on: 04 November 2008, 20:58:56 »
Hi has anybody managed to open up cruise control unit. I have removed screws but it does not seem to want to split.
Problem I have is that connecter has dropped back inside and jammed. Not sure about how much effect I can apply without breaking it. Any help would be much appreciated. :( :(

Yep.
Original time oil only in No2(quite a lot). That why I cannot believe its dry now. Breathers were cleaned about six months ago but were clear.
Cars running fine just thought I would check and dry it out again.
Only other thing I can think of is I have used Vauxhall semi synthetic oil on last 2 changes and it does seem thinner than Magnetec which was always uesd previously.

Omega General Help / Opinions Please
« on: 21 August 2008, 17:55:24 »
Been a while since last post but I am afraid I am one of the many who read forum every day but only really post when I cannot find required infomation in past posts.
About 6 weeks ago car started missing slightly and when I checked
No 2 plug well was full with oil. Thought its been about 18 months since changed cam cover seals I'll do it again later as I have also now got manifold gasket leak so tackle it when car stripped for that.
As manifold git of a job still leaving it. So thought better check plug well as its now been a while and lots of driving to do over weekend and to my suprise it is totally dry.
Has anybody else had this happen and opinions welcomed as to change it or leave it. I cannot believe its just stopped I am not that lucky.

Omega General Help / Re: Mud Flaps
« on: 03 August 2007, 22:08:53 »
Fitted them to my Elite back in 2000 no probs at all with rears. Fronts used to catch when wheels turned especially when new tyres fitted. I solved problem by using self tapping screw which pulls the inside edge back against wheel arch liner. Still there now. They were genuine Vauxhall flaps.
 :y :y

Bet they fall off tomorrow after saying that.  ;D ;D

Omega General Help / Re: leaking sunroof
« on: 22 July 2007, 21:41:38 »
Check seal around glass mine leaked when about 6 months old Dealer changed glass panel under warenty after first changing tray which only ended up giving me an annoying rattle plus original leak.
After cosy chat in car with tester and use of hosepipe making sure he was sitting under leak he agreed it was actual glass panel leaking.
Possible use of windscreen seal might be worth a try to start off as its fairly cheap and would easily eliminate glass.

Did you run it up to temp with heater on max heat to give total circulation of the system mine proved troublesome in getting rid of air completely also did you fit new or test stat whilst stripped down.
