Omega General Help / Re: Converting FWD V6 to RWD Config??
« on: 16 February 2009, 12:27:13 »

parts required:

Sump(s)
Oil pick up
Engine mounts
Inlet and exhaust manifolds complete
Water transfer pipe.
Engine wiring loom
Dipstick tube and dipstick
Flexplate and torque convertor
All the RWD engine ancillaries (starter alternator etc)

Basically we sat both engines together and swapped the lot over bit by bit

Am I right in thinking most of these can be taken from the 2.6 in (ish) my car? If so, I may have just sorted my engine supply problem...

This is something I'd thought vaguely about, I think given the cost of getting the separate parts, you (and me) are better off waiting for a 3.2 Omega engine to come along...

I drove a 500 mile round trip to get mine done... it ended up being closer to 650 miles since I went in search of windy country roads. Transformed the car completely, well worth it.

I'm probably wrong, but I think it's "P0100      Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage High ". HTH.

Omega General Help / Engine removal - PAS, air-con...
« on: 07 February 2009, 14:59:10 »
Right, I'm nearly ready to drop the engine out - everythings disconnected apart from the power steering and air con - am I best off dropping the pumps off the block and leaving them to the side, rather than disconnecting any pipework?

Omega General Help / Re: hid bulbs in full beam and fog lights

i am thinking of upgrading to hid bulbs for my full beam and fog lights has anyone else done this can it be done and what will i need thanks ?

You can get xenon, or whiter bulbs for about £7 from Ebay - the foglights aren't designed for any use other than fog, so unless you're doing as I did and taking some "arty" photos, there's no need for them...
I can heartily recommend the +80 Philips bulbs though, got them in my winterbox and they're brilliant.

Afraid not, a remap is possible, but no chip swap possible on the 2.2, 2.6 or 3.2

Is this what superchips would do then? I was having a look, as you do, and they quote about 13bhp increase, IIRC?

No personal experience of this but afaik the results are not usually worth the outlay and increase in fuel economy. Petrols dont respond the way diesels do from what i gather. As said, better and cheaper results can be had with 3.2 or 3.0 cams, usually breakers on here have a few kicking about and i would imagine if you put the word out someone on here may sort you out on the install...

Ah, I was talking theoretically, I'm putting a whole engine in my 2.6... :D

Has the Heater Bypass Valve been done?

No sign of damage to the valves, had a look with the boroscope. I'm at the point now where I'm so far into it, I'm going to a fit the 3.2 regardless... I need a new coffee table anyway. ;)

In that case, I'm at a loss to explain why the spark plug has been impacted - I thought it was clear part failure, but on closer inspection it's sheared the top end clean off, with a clean break on all four electrodes... any ideas? :)

Right, I've borrowed a boroscope and had a look in the cylinder, it looks like all four valves have impacted the piston... there's no cutouts in the top of the pistons to allow for the valves, is there?

Yes.....certainly on the 2.5 and 3.0's

D'oh. That'll be why they're symmetrical and still straight, then. :y

Pssht, by the time I've done everything else it needs, including cam cover gaskets (using proper VX sealant, unlike the garage did)... and I've always wanted to 3.2 it anyway...

« on: 31 January 2009, 15:59:12 »
...after pulling the front of the engine to bits, found the timing was still right, so moved my attention to the top. Found a bolt missing from a cam cover (!?), a nice oil mist over the rear of the engine, but no oil in the plug wells, when I'd took the coil pack off.
So, after about 10 hours of careful disassembly (rather do it slow and well...), I got to the plugs - front pass side showed signs of overfuelling, but still didn't account for the noise... pulled the middle plug out (cyl. 4?) - and found it had sheared off, so the electrode end was bouncing around the combustion chamber...

So, I'm officially saving the pennies for a 3.2, accident damaged or ex-plod... by the time I've pulled the engine to bits and reassembled, I might as well fit the bigger complete unit... rebuilt while it's on the deck.

Plus I'll get a new coffee table out of the 2.6 block...
