Omega General Help / Putting a 3.2 into a 2.6 - worth it?
« on: 10 August 2008, 23:16:56 »
How do. Part of my long-term plan for my 2.6 manual, is to drop a 3.2 engine in... if it's worth it. Is there a significant performance increase? And how much part-swapping is involved?

I'd buy a proper 3.2, but I couldn't bear to get rid of my baby... plus I couldn't do without the manual box, and the proper MV6 interior (as opposed to plod-spec).

If I went ahead, my intention would be to get the engine rebuilt before  dropping it in... and probably getting the bodywork done and painted while I'm at it... :D

Omega General Help / Interior lights - am I missing a fuse?
« on: 27 June 2008, 15:59:29 »
A while ago I was fiddling with the door cards, being a numpty I caught the terminals of the passenger door kerb light with the screwdriver, which I assumed to have popped the fuse - now none of the kerb lights or interior lights work.
Checked the fuses listed for courtesy lamps, they're fine - have I f'ed up royally? :D

*goes for a look at this hitherto unnoticed beacon of gadgetry*

Can't find out what it does... *looks in handbook*

"To lower armrest fully - press the button on the bottom"...

*goes back out*

It's right! It gives you a whole extra 3mm of drop at the front if you engage the button while lowering the armrest! Wow!

IME, it takes a lot of effort to get the car moving, but the midrange is astonishing... it is a big heavy car.

Why is mine so rubbish!!  :'( same engine!! unless MV6 is different to normall V6 but I doubt! I get 18 round town when driving normal!! 20 - 21 if I drive like I am carrying an armed bomb with motion sensors!! LOL

Is yours auto or manual? And when was it last serviced (plugs and iflters)? Checked the tyre pressures?

Failing that, I'd say there was something wrong in the engine, unless you do a lot of stop-start driving... my town driving tends to be at night so I can at least keep moving...

Did 120 miles this afternoon, mainly motorway, but a bit of rural and some villages too. Sat at 60mph on the A1 apart from when I was passing heavies, when I'd get up to 70mph... I'm considerate like that.
Apart from one short blast up to (ahem) 70mph and no more down a rural DC, I was driving like a vicar... and got 31.5mpg. Well impressed with that, as I said I'm more used to 23-34... and I've got no cruise control or willpower...

That's something to try for me then... my 2.6 averages about 23mpg in mixed driving, largely because I drive everywhere like I've set myself alight and tried to put it out with petrol... I start every journey with the intention of driving carefully and economically, but the first member of the 40mph club ahead of me, I take a safe overtake, then the right foot tends to stay down... :)

Omega General Help / Re: Recommended tyres?
« on: 23 June 2008, 17:56:01 »
Ended up with Dunlop SP 3000s, got to say the difference is staggering.

(I'd have hung on and got the V's delivered, but if I'd had to drive at all in the interim, the local constabulary may have disagreed with me regarding the legality of the rears...)

Ey up

Took the wheels off to get to cleaning the brakes, noticed the rear tyres are down to 0.5mm from the wear bars. Explains the recent sideways action on every wet roundabout (but who says I'm complaining? ;) )
Might as well take the chance to get four decent ones fitted, the ones fitted now I've never heard of.

It's the MV6 running on 17s, I'm looking at Goodyear Hydragrips or Vredestein Sportrac 3s - unless anyone's got any horror stories?

All I can add is that my EML light was on for the same, then one day I started it and it vanished...

Don't think facelifts can be paper clipped even with the 30XE engine  :-/
They can, its the engine not the body shape that matters.
Drive by wire can't normal throttle cables can.

Nope!

Have a search on here and you'll find the problem discussed a number of times. But basically 2.6/3.2 has 4 cats, the precats aren't up to the job after a few years use. Don't worry though because the car will still pass emissions tests due to the main cats being plenty good enough.  :y

Right. So it's not going to damage it to drive it? Is there any point getting the light reset, or will it come on again?

(If it can be reset, I might bring my Omega down to WIM's open day, hint hint ;) )

ETA: Read this topic - http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1206389782

Cheers chaps, really is appreciated, and puts my mind at rest. :y

Tried it on my 2.6 (manual, 02 plate). Now, the EML is on for me, as I posted in my other topic.

Followed that sequence, and the light flashed out 10-4-3-10... then stayed off (for more than ten seconds)... and illuminated constantly when I lifted off the pedals. HTH

Usual 3.2 pre cat problem then....  obviously beginning to effect a few 2.6's now.

Hmm. Is this an excuse for me to fit a full stainless system? :)

So it works? Damn, this one was a good find  ;D

Indeed. Now, what does 10-4-3-10 relate to?
