Yeah everything was changed as it had been sitting a long time :-\

It maybe because the old air filter was clogged up  :-\

I changed the air filter on mine....as it hadn't been changed for about 60k miles....the engines revs went up, presumably as it wasn't used to getting more air into the intake....it took it about a week for the revs to settle back down to normal...…...

General Car Chat / Re: What did you learn to drive with?
« on: 05 June 2018, 16:45:12 »
I learnt to drive in my dads Vauxhall Cavalier....

My first car was a Vauxhall Chevette 1.3 which I kept for 6 months then changed for a VW Golf 1.5 Auto....then drove autos for about the next 30 years  :y

But now driving manuals....as I had a DVT in my left leg....which was blamed on me driving an auto all day  :(

General Car Chat / VED
« on: 05 June 2018, 16:36:34 »
Just changed my Mondeo 1.6TD for basically the same, but newer and a 2.0TD

The VED on the 1.6TD was £30/yr

Just taxed it online and pleasantly surprised to find the VED on the 2.0TD is also £30/yr  :y :)

Failed to fill the Jag with fuel.

Surely, the mongs know that given the high price of fuel, they need to bump up the maximum limit  >:(

You could have replaced the nossel back in the pump, then taken it back out again, and filled up the rest of the tank, remembering how many litres you put in the on the first fill  :)

Did you change the air filter when you serviced it?

« on: 02 June 2018, 15:00:07 »
Thought Id start a new topic about a curry night in Swindon.

I thought any Sat night either later this month or July.

The subject title is the name of the restaurant I thought we'd go to...

Any one unfamiliar with Tiffins …. its an all you can eat buffet for £17 (on a sat night)

Any interest?

General Discussion Area / DAB Aerial
« on: 25 May 2018, 17:14:14 »
My recently bought Denon Hifi has a DAB radio ….

The DAB aerial it came with is basically rubbish....unless you live in strong DAB signal strength area, I guess.

On a search of DAB stations, it didnt find many and the ones it did find kept cutting out.....the local radio station was the only one that seemed ok, but that cut out occassionly....  :(

So i bought a DAB aerial for it .... A Vivanco TVA 200 ....

Well impressed  :y

On a search of stations with the new aerial connected, it found 51 DAB stations and everyone plays fine  :y

Its also suppose to be an aerial for TV and PC ... tho i havent tried it on that, so carnt comment....

So if you have a DAB radio and its a bit rubbish on channels/reception and can connect an external aerial, I would recommend this one  :y

Yes. All 4 parts replaced. Using the later parts (Sachs) too as per last time.

Also feels more vibratey and bus like while idling.

I’ve a phone call to make shortly!

Is the DMF actually rattling, particularly when starting?

The extra noise could be front pipe if they messed up putting it back, I seem to remember that when I did it one of the bolts snapped on the front pipe to DPF joint so it was drilled and tapped, maybe they have done similar and not bothered sorting it.

According to my local garage the DMF on my Mondeo is going.....it rattles when the clutch is pressed half way, no other point does it rattle....or rattle on start up. It certainly makes it harder to get a smooth pullaway in 1st or into 2nd.

Garage tells me it will start to make a 'banging' noise eventually and to get it changed then.....apparently its a 5 hour job!

Mine is £20....a year

My old VW was £30  :)

Zafira is £140  :(

My 62 plate 1.6TD is £30/year

The 63 plate 2.0TD im thinking of changing to is also £30/year  :)

My average speed is about 15mph and the consumption is about 50mpg in my 1.6TD  :y :)

Tho that will probably change shortly as im looking at swapping the 1.6 out for a 2.0  :)

General Car Chat / Re: Oil colour...
« on: 19 May 2018, 16:12:24 »
If I could be bothered, which I carnt  ::) if were to look at the dipstick on my Mondeo I expect that to have black oil on it as well.
I get the oil and filter changed when it wants it changed, which is about 12k miles...…

Anyway checking the oil level with black oil on it is easier than if its clear oil  ;) ;D
