Auto for me :y :y it suits large cars, a possible exception might be for a small nippy car for country road fun...but not for regular running around town or commuting.......I must be getting old...... ::) ::) ::)

Yep, SWMBO's auto Jazz is brilliant, and very nippy, quicker off the mark than my TD (if unchipped as at present) :y :y :y.

Personally I prefer manuals and the one in my MV6 is exceptionally sweet. I can`t stand the way an auto box decides to change down or up when you either don`t want or least expect it, and they`re less economical too.
And as for the `how many legs have you got` is the daftest argument for something I`ve ever heard, do you have a keyboard with 10 keys on it?
It`s all down to personal taste and what you want from the car  :y

Almost as daft as 'I like to be in control' . Wow! there must be millions of uncontrolled cars about. :-X

Thanks, yes I knew about the TC. It has to come off with the box I believe, and be fitted to the new box before it is refitted with its new bellhousing. :y :y :y

i agree, but will be as good as new when im finished ;)

I'd be interested in any problems encountered, (perhaps you could do a how to?) as I will be swapping the AR25 on my TD for an AR35 soon. :y

try running with the econ button pressed when the aircon is not needed.

Fair point, but I never bothered with  that before when I was getting better mpg. :-/

Omega General Help / TD fuel consumption
« on: 10 May 2011, 13:13:32 »
I've been running my TD chipped for the last few years, and recently went back to the entry level chip to protect the AR25 box until I get round to fitting the AR35 sitting in my garage.

I am concerned that my consumption, empirical and computer readout, shows that I am only getting around 24.5 mpg running around on short journeys, and 32 on a run. Before the car was originally chipped in 2007, I was getting about 26/35.

The car has been extremely well serviced in accordance with OOF recommendations. Milage is 105K.

Any suggestions as to how I might restore its mpg, other than re-chipping? :-?

Yeah, everything gasketwise is new. So since the the cam bolts are reuseable, it looks like I just might put new gaskets on it. But that's what peeved me off more than anything is I seriously thought about replacing the head gaskets when I had it torn apart. I should have done them.

Pardon me for being somewhat surprised if you had the heads off and didn't replace them. :-?

If, as seems possible, the tensioner has failed, and/or the cam belt jumped a few teeth, and even if not, it seems the height of irresponsibility to have been advised by the AA to drive home. Does a member have any comeback in these circumstances?

I've just had a chat with Phil at Viezu technical. Basically they can offer some improvements of performance/economy on OBD11 compliant vehicles, which counts TD's out, and sounds like a remapping programme. Contact Phil for more info. :y

Yes, I must admit I was looking at the Opel 2.5TDi figures, but I think that was a different engine.
