Omega General Help / Re: hard starting from cold

That was my intention. All I have left to do is to take a few photos to fit in the spaces I have left in the text. No problems here, but when I read the ' how to post picture guide"  I had to  rest  in a darkened room for 20 minutes! Frankly I'm scared, well apprehensive at least, and this is stopping me progressing.

 Any helpful suggestions?

Funny you should say that, it's the same reason I've never posted pics. :y

Send me your e mail via a pm and I will send you  my full experiences of sorting a 2.2 dti cold starting problem. 3-4 pages of A4 so to big to post here.
It is probably the glow plug control module, from what you have said.  Ambient temperature  does set the glow time, but the glow plug control module has no direct connection to a temperature sensor. It gets this info from the ECU. From my experience, unfortunatly problems with the module do not report as stored fault codes.
Regarding your F & C readings. This is often associated with the ingress of moisture into the temp sensor wiring at  1) the sensor connector under the front bumper, 2) the sensor wiring  connectors by the horns 3) the large connector in passenger foot well. Quite often it will dry out and fix itself, but only to return when the weather gets really wet again!

It sounds as though you could post a good 'How to'. :y

I must comment that at a recent visit to WIM I asked the fitter, not Tony, for a tyre recommendation, and he said, "...................

They do make a bloody good towcar though. Especially the MV6 with stiffer springs.

Having done it recently, it will be difficult to (a) Save all the fluid and (b) keep it clean for reuse. The filter will be OK. :y

So i'm curious. I know the write up said to drain the fluid through the drain plug on the large sump/pan. Could I leave the large sump sealed up and drain the fluid through the small sump in front?

I wouldn't want to half ass the job but It would make life a lot easier if I could get away with draining the least amount of fluid necessary. I would "assume" it's possible although i'm sure it would make a big mess as it would end up dripping all around the sump. If it is possible to just crack open the small sump about how much fluid do you think I would get?

A slight misread here, it says

4.   Position oil tray/old washing up bowl under level plug. This is situated half way up the drivers side of the rear (biggest) sump. You'll know it when you see it, it's not a drain plug hence not at the lowest point. Slacken level plug (13mm IIRC), don't fully remove, let ATF flow out into your container (not a great deal at this point). Be very careful as you are working near the cat. converters which will be quite hot even after your short drive. Hand tight level plug - to avoid spillage when sump comes off.

This is the level plug, there is no drain plug, so once the excess has drained through the level plug, you have to remove the sump(s) to drain the rest of the ATF. To be frank, if you are dropping one sump, you would be advised to do both, replace or clean the filter, and refill with fresh ATF in accordance with the guide. HTH :y :y :y

As already mentioned, the sunroof problem is totally unrelated and is a known problem.
The official word goes like this:

Complaint : Sunroof opens by self-operation, especially at high air humidity and cold ambient temperatures.
Cause: Electronic fault caused by humidity in the drive unit.
Remedy : Replace drive unit.

Members here have had some success by cleaning the magnetic disc inside the unit, this will explain:

Mine also does it ocsnly, it resets OK as above, but to be honest, with climate control I really don't need it, so run with the fuse out. :y

Hi had this problem on a 2lt have you checked your thermastat, if it ok then it could be your water pump. as it was the later on mine .

Unlikely. If this has failed you will overheat big-time. :y

Does anybody have any tip on what to check for? I feel a bit desperate right now, I spent so many hours upgrading the car and now this happens.

Thank you for reading and I'm very thankful for every tip!

Silly question here you might think, but have you actually checked the Automatic Transmission fluid level? And if so how?  :y :y

Oh, and by the way, the gearbox oil and filter has been changed and the level seems fine.

He says so. :y

Okay, just thought I'd ask. Takes a bit of sifting through the thread now its 4 pages long. Still interested to see if the level was checked in the prescribed manner  :y :y

I'd asked the same earlier - until I re-read all the posts, but I agree that it is the first thing to check. :y

Did you move the gearbox control unit from the donor car when you swapped the AR25 for the AR35.
If not, is that still an option?

I wouldnt think that was an option to be honest Kneepad as the g/box came from a petrol v6, he will have to find an identical g/box ecu, believe me i had this trouble when i first joined OOF. ::) ::)

WARNING Thread hi-jack! ::) ::) ::)

As most of you know, I'm still running an AR25 on my chipped TD,  (over 30k now) but have an AR35 on standby if required. From what you say Alf, I also will need a matching G/Box ECU, or can I use my existing? 8-) 8-) 8-)

No Shackeng, you use your original G/box ECU as its set up for your engine type & year so you are safe, i should have worded it better sorry. ;D ;D

I realise that you have probably already done so, but when you put the AR35 in, did you replace the oil and filter? This is the first port of call with autobox problems.

Edit: Sorry, just read your later post confirming this.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys!

No the snow mode button didn't light up at all, how do I go about investigating this further? Any tip? Do you mean that the snow mode could be jammed?

My plans for tomorrow (even tough it's 22 degrees below zero):
- Check alternator output voltage
- Check the multiplug (blue) connector and maybe spray it with electrical cleaner
- Check ALL fuses

I'm happy to do a £30 paypal-donation to the member who is spot on with the tip of the cause of the problem, all tough it may be a shot in the dark for you without inspecting the car.

I've tried Norwegian Opel/VX forums, but not a single reply.. Way more knowledge here with you guys:)

I haven't been out in mine lately, but IIRC the selector has to be in Drive to allow snow mode to be selected. I was suggesting that if under the correct circumstances you were unable to select snow mode, it suggests that there is a problem with that circuit. I am certainly no expert, and hopefully one of our better qualified OOFers can advise further.

Went down to the parking garage here at work and put the car in drive. Pressed the snow mode button several times but the car still started in 3rd gear and sport function wouldn't work.

Didn't try to disconnect the whole thing, should I perhaps try that? Wierd that the diagnostic tools (both mine and at the dealer) can't connect to the gearbox?

Thanks again!

Did the snow button light up? If not, this suggests further investigation in this area.
