Omega General Help / Re: Bugger, water leak
« on: 23 April 2016, 19:20:22 »
Did pressure test up to 10 psi no leaks on cold engine, there was coolant leak signs in the middle of the heads, oil cooler change and old cooler had next to no sealant around it. Now have another coolant leak dropping down at rear of engine. Will remove inlet manifold in the morning and find out if coolant in and around oil cooler again. Yes I did a bleed on the engine after refill last time

After putting the new cooler in and all topped up 36 hours later I have been using the car for a few days. Got in it tonight to come home from work and have a low coolant level warning. Looks like its back to taking inlet manifold off again in the morning for me. :-\ :'(

Quite a rare colour/finish only fitted to '02 cars... earlier where black, and later were patterned.

I shall ask the owner of my '02 CDX if they're of interest :y

I don't think I would call them black :-\

Two F/L Elite front seats in the smooth leather and come in dark slate shade, collection only unless your close to me and I'll drop them off in my van :y

Pity they're not grey John, otherwise they would have gone in my TD. :( :y

It the dark grey, as for the heaters working, RobG said they did when I got them a few years ago now but they never worked in my Elite but the ones I have just put in have the heaters in working order but will not come on in my Elite, so I think I will have to check supply at the seat as Plod may have used it for something else  :y

The stored fault code is Egr low flow, Zirk but will check it out. Joff thank for the heads up on the elbow.

Other things to check are

Inlet manifold full of carbon build up, pop the plastic cover off the top of the engine and you will see the EGR valve on the N/S, two torx screws and it's off and one vac pipe. I bet it looks like a Christmas tree but in carbon deposits :y the pressure valve is at the back on the same side and held in with one torx screw/bolt :y

Wish I had read your first post again, my money is on the rubber elbows then if the inlet manifold is clean. See if you can get a few in before the weekend some are 90deg and some 180deg

Oil cooler change yesterday, not a nice job to do, old cooler had almost no sealant on it. Just hanging around for the 24 hours to be up so I can put some fresh coolant in now, engine all back together and another oil change as it has 100K on it now plus about 400 miles. Had to have the oil filter off to do the cooler so why not I say.

Hope that is the coolant leak fixed as I need to get out and test the rear poly's

All done, don't see much of a change with the poly's on the rear donuts :-\

Well, my job for the weekend is to check all the vacuum hoses on my Omega, when my new vacuum tester arrives. I'm having intermittent loss of power when under load mainly on hills at full throttle, and the EML light comes on for a few seconds then and at junctions. A new EGR valve was fitted before I bought the car last week which I took off to check tonight  and to have a wee peak into the inlet manifold inlet which all looked fine. Checked the vacuum at the pie to the EGR valve which seem nowhere near strong enough compared to the effort of the sucking it took me to open the EGR valve.
Does anyone know how reliable the vacuum solenoids are on these motors? I've been in the motor trade for many years and never had to replace one yet, so suspect that they aren't the problem.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Rubber elbow at the back of the cam cover, very common and we have had it on every 2.2dti we have had :y

Well it did make it to the garage for mot,and got a full pass no advisories,i was expecting the worse and a few evenings of welding that i never spotted needing doing etc,but the examineer was very surprised everything was very solid, now i can carry on with winch bumper, winch,do front suspension lift and then fit rock sliders.

Do,you have the parts for doing that yet, as I have all that on the TD5 which is coming off very soon :y
