General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?
« on: 21 August 2016, 23:15:24 »
In between the torrential rain here, removed airbox, bagpipes and aux belt. Can now see the alternator and (assuming I have scrounged the right size spanner) tomorrow morning I'll pull it off and strip to the regulator so I can order a replacement.  :y

Got an alternator in the shed for a V6 but can't remember if its any god :-\ bugger

As per title, after the black transmission tunnel and ashtray trim from an early GLS / Plod facelift car.

I have two wood surrounds and an ash tray with the black mounting surround for the switches, is that what you want, don't have the tunnel part :-\

Omega General Help / Re: 3.2 Coolant Leak
« on: 19 August 2016, 12:17:37 »
I would whip the plenum off tonight, but have other things on until next weekend.

Same as I had in April (oil cooler seal)

Checked rad, it's all fine as far as I can see. I'd expect drips while parked if that  :-\

Sadly I can't get the plenum and inlet off until week after next.  :(

Best keep a can of coolant in the car then, mine would use 1/2 ltr  just driving home 8 miles

The 3.2 has developed a leak, I can see moisture around where the engine block meets gearbox bell housing. It's dripping from two torx bolts, that said there is moisture around the engine sump.

Checked HBV, pipes all dry. Appears to loose coolant on the move, nothing much on the ground after being parked up. Lost around 2 fingers worth from header tank from 25 mile run, clear whiff of coolant when opening the door after stopping.

Had good feel around back of the block, can't feel anything. Can only think of the oil cooler plate or coolant bridge? But would expect bigger losses, oil looks fine.
Just what I don't need this week.  :(

Had the same with mine in April this year at around 100K, it was the seal on the oil cooler. I had a new one so put it in and now all fine again but then the HBV went again after only 18 months so now has another new one and all fine again

Oil coolers are not cheep now if you go down the main dealer road. :'(

General Car Chat / Re: The Omega Replacement conundrum.
« on: 15 August 2016, 18:04:51 »
I tested the wife's Mondeo on a trip to Scotland over the past two weeks and I must say it passed (and the air-con works) 2.0D top spec estate 07 plate and we got 48 mpg over 1200 miles. Not as big as the Omega estate in size but I had a roof box on it like I did with the Elite, and the seats are ok too. Cost £3200 now with 101k on it. I like it :y

A while back you couldn't give x-types away.  Injectors, transmissions, all the other ford foibles...  Let's hope they improved it towards the end.  :-\

The chap that had it before did so for five years, he always put it into his local garge for work but as I say it passed the test for us with our many trips to Scotland from Wiltshire to see the family. Fingers crossed :y
