General Car Chat / Re: The Omega Replacement conundrum.
« on: 15 August 2016, 16:35:44 »
I tested the wife's X type Jag on a trip to Scotland over the past two weeks and I must say it passed (and the air-con works) 2.0D top spec estate 07 plate and we got 48 mpg over 1200 miles. Not as big as the Omega estate in size but I had a roof box on it like I did with the Elite, and the seats are ok too. Cost £3200 now with 101k on it. I like it :y

Omega General Help / Re: TD Sump
« on: 15 August 2016, 15:38:34 »
Thanks Ray, I'll let you know. I have realised I don't have the length of garage to get an engine hoist in, so I may be forced, through gritted teeth, to take it to the garage just up the road to have it fitted. I am just waiting to make sure I can get a sump at a reasonable price. I suppose I shouldn't complain. I've had the car for 17 years and done everything else -except gassing a/c - myself. :y

I use a chain hoist from the rafters in the garage when I need to lift an engine. Doesn't take up anything like as much space as an engine hoist. :y

I doubt very much if mine would take the weight. :y

I have an engine hoist you could use, the legs go under the car so you don't need a lot of room.

Typical ... we leave tomorrow towing the tin-tent to Scotland for a 2 week holiday... just been trailered home by Green Flag with a major gearbox failure .... no warning at all .. stopped at the bank to pay in a cheque, came out, started car, went to pull away ... MASSIVE grinding sounds, terrible vibration, no movement at all .... knock it into neutral .. it took 4-5 seconds to react with a horrible squealing tinny sound .... so looks like I'm looking for a known good AR35 + flexplate + torqueconverter .. and someone to help me change it at the roadside.

Can't even put it on the ramp at the moment as I need to get the tin-tent out, luckily we have a friend who has a "spare" LR discovery that he will lend us for 2 weeks.... so we WILL go on holiday ... just a tad late by the time we sort our act out.

:(
Is the box at fault? Or is it just the flexplate that has let go?

Your reference to terrible vibrations makes me think that the torque converter was making a bid for freedom. If that was the case then the unknown will be whether the input shaft or oil pump have been damaged :-\

Had that go on the Disco last year, now have an H/duty one in :y

I have an option for you Nige, if all goes well with our trip to Scotland over the next two weeks with the wife's X type estate Jag, I will be putting the Black Elite estate up on here, more room in an Estate  ::) ::) ;)

Bought a set of GM pads and discs for the v6 on trade club at NOW VX in weybridge, very helpful counter guy and seemed to know his stuff regarding omega parts. very pleased, just as a enquiery what do others pay for a disc and pads kit on TC. I WAS CHARGED £91.91 PLUS THE DREADED VAT.
Still for got to get a pollen filter(bugger)
Fair price :y used to pay £105 for disc/pad kit...

You can get the same set of the bay for about £70 :y

Has anybody got a header tank for a V6 Omega with the level sensor too please...

Or if anyone has a link to brandnew as I believe they are NLA at the dealers now...
Did Main dealer tell you that  :-\

Get one off the bay of E for about £40, and it was OE :y

59
The following please...

Top hat seal P/N 90467543

And/or PN 9118135 plenum o rings x6

The latter should still be available from the dealer, but thought I'd check in case. Possibly after several of the top hat seals, if anyone has a bag full of them kicking around.

Thanks in advance chaps  :)

Don't think you can get the top hat seal from the dealers anymore :'(

Cars for Sale & wanted / Re: WANTED OMEGA ESTATE DIESEL
« on: 22 June 2016, 04:37:14 »
Surely there must be more modern diseasel estates out there with better performance and economy, and without the added feature of flogging a dead horse included : ::) :)Think we all need to move on as the Omega is now doooomed!! ;D

There are two problems: you aren't going to find an estate that is as useful - even Volvo have fallen into the trap of sloping rear windows and tapered roof lines; a well-used modern diesel is likely to suffer from expensive issues that will wipe out any economy savings.

This is true, I got the wife an X type estate in April. nice car top spec 38-50mpg, but the rear seats will not go down flat and the roof tapers down to the rear. only the 2.0D but its not slow. :y
