Omega General Help / Re: Rear door trim fouling
« on: 23 May 2007, 08:32:24 »
Grateful thanks to everyone for their advice. What a great site this is! Is removal just a pull off with a pair of molegrips or should I take a bit more care? :-/

Omega General Help / Rear door trim fouling
« on: 20 May 2007, 19:31:24 »
A rather annoying fault  >:(. On opening the passenger door the other day the trim on the rear door fouled with the closed front door and partly ripped away. I think this was due to some corrosion underneath the trim that had raised it slightly. Again, rather annoying on a T plate. Anyway, has anybody got any suggestions of how to deal with this? Should I try to glue it back with some araldite or completely remove and replace with a new trim?

Hi there 'The Boy'. Thanks for taking an interest. Fuse number is 15. I haven't dared trying the aircon again in motion since everything is now okay.

As for the radio,...., I'm a dork! I was trying to enter the wrong code from the credit card passport that came with the car. I was trying to enter the car security code. If I had looked a bit further down the card I would have seen the radio code. Anyway, display shows I have 7 attempts left but is not allowing me to enter the code due to the security time delay. I'll have another go when I go on a long run and can safely leave the radio on to get over the delay.

I have recently bought a 2.5TD 1999 GLS. Well chuffed as it was only a grand due to a known fault I have since repaired at minimal expense. :)

However, when driving home the other day it was a warm day and I decided to turn on the aircon.
The aircon light came on, but within seconds there was an audible click and I had total loss of instruments (speedo, rev counter, fuel guage etc) However, car continued to run okay and started up okay despite no lights at all on dash.  :(

I had previously checked the aircon at standstill and it appeared to work although it probably needed regassing. :)

I checked the fuses and found that a 20A had blown. On replacement, I had instruments again. I turned on the aircon whilst stationary and it appeared to work. However, when I moved the car forward to check speedo operation the fuse blew again.

Anyone got any ideas? :question

Also, the radio cassette has gone into safe mode due to the power outage. I have the original code on the credit card printout which came with the car at new but it wont accept it. Do I really need to take it to the $tealers to get sound back? :question

Just to let everyone know. I bought the car with the known fault: Cutting out when I dipped the clutch at low revs and a bit reluctant to restart, great fun at roundabouts! Other than that the car ran fine.

Well, when I got the engine cover off I could see the leakback pipes had corroded and had leaked diesel into 2 of the injector wells.

I replaced the pipes, a bit fiddley. Gave the engine an oil and filter change, changed the fuel filter, filling it with Diesel Magic to clean the injectors. Fitted a new air filter.

And....now the car runs great! This is a T reg estate having done 128k. All for a grand!! Wow!!! ;D

I am going to have a look at the breather tubes tomorrow as I think they may be a bit clogged

By the way, I asked a clutch specialist how expensive a clutch replacement would be. Good news, although the clutch is a couple of hundred quid it is only a few hours job.

Thanks very much everybody for your comments and advice. I will be viewing the car on Tuesday to make a decision. Much will depend on the final agreed price. Omegatoy, I may be in touch to find out the fix you mention. Just out of interest, how much would you suggest the price is dropped by to cover this problem? Also, about how much will it cost me to get the car chipped if I buy it?
Cheers.

Omega General Help / berserkerboy in need of advice

Hi there everyone!

Am looking for a bit of advice.

I am considering buying a 2.5Td on a T plate with 130k on the clock. The owner has just told me that the car has started to misbehave this morning by cutting out at junctions and roundabouts. Nice of him to be honest before I gave him the money!!

The car is okay at higher revs. I realise that this problem could be any number of things but am wondering if there is a well known cause for this on these cars?

Any comments would be welcome as the owner has offered to drop the price. The actual amount has still to be agreed.

Also on a more general theme how do you rate these BMW engines in the manual version. Somebody told me that they are very expensive to do things like the clutch. I have seen people advertising autos with galactic mileages though, so they can't be all bad?
