Win7 and Restore points.
« on: 04 February 2014, 17:59:11 »

Seems of late, every time Win 7 does an update, it deletes my own weekly Restore Points that I make, anyone else noticed this and is there a get around?

Increase the amount of disk space that is allocated for restore points, the obvious drawback of course being that you will lose whatever capacity you specify in available storage space.

Thanks looked into that Im on 4%, about 10 gb, each restore seems to be around 400 mb, so no issues there, did try and increase the size within System Performance, Win wont let me do it though. I tend to do my own Restores after a full scan and clean up so I know everything is running right once a week. Think I'll look into the posibilities of renaming the file afterwards and saving it to another drive. :-\

Try ...

Control panel / System / Advanced System Settings

System protection tab then second up from the bottom .. "configure"

You can either try and increase the storage space there .. or delete all restore points then go back one screen and make a new one straight away.

I've worked on some systems that have restore points over 2 years old just sitting there !! Somewhat pointless !!

HTH :)

And remember its not an alternative to a backup system.

Its mostly registry and SFC covered files

No I appreciate that, do do backups for that reason, but also on my own single lappy, tend to just Ghost the Drive Image across to another Drive once a month, that way worst come to worst, I know I can get myself up and running in  an hour or two without relying on the OS to restore my backup.  ;)
