deleted passwords
« on: 27 October 2017, 14:51:26 »

Hi all has anyone had this problem.Started the PC yesterday went to log in to email no saved password, checked the bank no saved passwords. It looks like all my saved passwords have gone,my browser is Firefox and my home page is bt.Rang bt the tech guy said he thinks an update to Firefox caused the problem, its the same on my laptop.Strange thing is when i open the bt home page and do a search,in the search box.It goes to the google search box,and if i do a search in there it just wipes it out.And does not show any sites at all,so now i have had to reset all my passwords and bookmark them. This cant be right can it how would an up date, wipe out all my passwords.Dean >:(

Do you have Norton Anti-Virus installed? Looks like that prevents passwords being carried over in some cases.

This was an old case though:

The update may have just cleared all your cookies, so none of your saved passwords showed. You could have probably logged in using your existing passwords, if you remembered them.

Hi Ste,i remembered some of them and some were written down but not all.Plus i still don't have the option to use the search bar,on the bt home page.So now i use IE and google search and just bookmark the sites i visit, and assign a password. This time i have written them all down. ;D.

Your Saved Passwords should still be a Folder somewhere, probably within User, App Data, Local, blah blah, problem may be if the Folder will (Should be) encrypted by the Browser, so whether you can read them or not is a different matter.

Hi all,i think i may be getting to the bottom of this.Yesterday when i was on bt home page,i could not get anything to come up in the search bar.(not the address bar)It just kept going to the google search box,and if you typed anything in there it would just wipe the search and not show any sites. But today the search box is working correctly, and showing search's.So i can go to lets say this site and it comes up no prob, but obviously i cant login.Fist is the saved passwords are not there,i have changed them but can login with the new password. My point is i think this is a bt homepage problem, and they have fixed it.And charged me £30 for the privilege and i had to change all my passwords,i am going to give them a call.Dean.

If the profile corrupts, and a new one is generated, this also happens.

Personally, I never use the store password facility, as its an easy hoard for scumbags.

Hi,DG yes this is the same computer. But after investigation by both banks no info was stolen or money taken. But finally after 3 hours talking to bt they admit, there was a problem with not only there homepage but the search engine.Which could of caused the loss of my passwords, they have credited me my £30 back and told me not to use there search engine on there homepage. So i am a happy bunny.Dean. :y
