Is there anything I can do do recondition the wiper linkage and motor, beyond potential strip, clean and regrease? Can I replace the balljoints or similar? It's 180-odd k old and while it's off I might as well...

I would leave the balljoints alone; they're not intended to be disassembled and doing so just makes them looser than you would like.


If you must do anything, remove the linkage, clean the balljoints with your favourite solvent and regrease them. That's all that is 'necessary'

There's a distinct lack of hammers being mentioned which makes me uneasy.

The most common problem with the wipers is that the shaft that holds the wiper arms size up and eventually freeze.

You can take them apart and clean them up, then grease them and then they will run freely.
