Servicing intervals
« on: 20 December 2009, 16:13:57 »

In the UK we only use our car maybe once or twice a year and will only cover around 1000 miles max or realistically a few hundred miles over a couple of months. Is it still worth getting the car serviced anually or is it case of judgement? The service interval is 9000 miles. At the moment I get it doen annually but it hardly gets used.

I would get the oil changed, and trust to judgement.

But that's me.

Agreed AA.
Oil & filter change once a year despite the mileage & check all others. MY Trans-Am's did very low miles & i always changed their oil every year :y
It doesn't cost much & takes so little time to do :)

Thanks for the responses. At the moment it has full service history, so I think I'll keep it that way.  :y

i'd drop its oil, & coolant, thats about it. Thinking beind coolant is that its been stood for a long time, frozen, then standard temp, then frozen again, its never been brought upto standard engine temp

On the coolant side, it might be better to use standard blue antifreeze as the long life OAT stuff can support algae growth if the system is not run up to temperature regularly. I'd still change it every 2 years though.

Agreed with above. Wife does 1,000 miles a year on her car, and we service it every year.

And don't forget the brake fluid which need to be changed every two years regardless of mileage...
