After my last -reasonably priced -trip to a local garage for a stat and crank sensor change (who i would use again for cost of spares and labour) i found that the idle was all over the place. i returned the car and the mechanic cleaned and reclipped the icv connector and all was well for a couple of days.
then it started to fluctuate again, (on advise from this brill site) i cleaned out the icv with some carb cleaner (yes it was carboned up to high heaven) and at the same time sprayed and cleaned out the manifold intake where the choke flaps are.
after a spin up our local bypass i just had to come on and say- wow !!! what a difference it has made, the car must have been previously neglected somewhat cos just the few little bits and bobs i have done have transformed the power and mpg!
so the moral of the tale is keep it all clean!!!

Omegas are the type of cars that are great when properly maintained. However, if services or oil changes are neglected, they soon let you know

That might explain why mine when idleing occasionally picks up by a couple of hundred RPM for a moment. (bit like it does when you switch the aircon on or off)

When we do your cambelt captain, we will also do a thorough clean-out of the breather system, plenum, throttle bodies and ICV....

Give the breather system a good clean as well

Running sweet as a nut. Now I just have to replace the interior with a leather set and I will be a very happy chappy!
