Multi Information Display woes!
« on: 24 January 2007, 19:57:34 »

Well, I've managed to set the date and time on my MID in my '95 Elite, at least  ;D

However - the only other function it displays is outside temperature (which it currently thinks is 41.5C!).  Prodding the 'R' and 'S' buttons on the wiper stalk doesn't seem to do anything.

There was no display at all when I picked the car up last night - thumping the top of the dash brought it up nicely.  Again the same thing earlier when I checked out the car for the first time in daylight (!) - so I thumped it again - however, walking past the car a few minutes ago (about 2hrs after I'd locked it up) I noticed the display was still burning brightly...so I opened the door, thumped the dash again and it went out.  So now it only comes on with the lights  ::)

When the radio is turned on, the station doesn't display either.

Is this a common fault and if so, easy or hard fix?

Also, the central locking appears to be goosed.  Haven't checked the fuse yet.  A bit irritating as the fuel filler door isn't locked  :o

Top tip squire - disconnected it, liberal squirt with electrical switch cleaner, and it now works!

External temperature readings are still a bit awry though  ;D

Fit a new external temp sensor then.....7 quid delivered off ebay and it sits on the bottom edge of the bumper just below the passenger headlight....
