Exhaust Manifold leak

OK, so the O/S EM is blowing.  Gotten rapidly worse, although liveable.

Q1: Will it hurt anything else to leave it be for a while?

Q2: Is this something that can be done at a cambelt party (one side)?

should be ok to drive, although will flag up some sensor issues no doubt.

Its a big job to fix though, "officially" its an engine out job to do the passenger bank, but some say you can just pop it off its engine mount and do it. JamesV6CDX told me about that way, might be worth dropping him a PM!  :y

O/S is easier, shouldn't be too much of a challenge. Apparently a couple of bolts for coolant pipe are a pain...

Have to drain coolant?

I take it the studs are a whole 'nother story?

Studs come out ok on the V6......the coolant pipe bolts I have never had trouble with myself....

Not to bad a job...worth flattening the manifold off before re-fitting to remove any warping...

I've been thinking about that.  I am wondering if the 4th gear lockup is a little erratic due to low fluid, so maybe the fluid level should be checked first to get a true comparison.

The lockup at 50mph cruising steadily is much less noticable on new firmware...

The RH manifold is easy enough, no engine/head removal required.

All a bit fiddly but not hard.

If you did the cambelt theo, you'll do this without too much trouble

Make sure you get some penetrating stuff on the studs the night before removal

I doubt that I'll mess with this before the next Cambelt Party.  MOT isn't until June and it's not obnoxiously bad yet.  Probably do the one and then be able to hear the other though  >:(

When my LPG conversion is done and certified, my seats fitted, my full service and cambelt change done, Jamie's rover finished, The V6 being half way to broken, and Tunnies timing belt done, I'll come over and give you a hand with it ;)

I think I have the same problem with mine and was wondering how much the manifolds warp and how difficult it is to get them flat? Another question, does any body know how much the manifold gaskets are?

The more the merrier!  I am sure that I can do it by myself, but always less frustrating with others around - especially if they have that tool you need!  ;)

I know what you mean.  I've got really itchy fingers for a project car that is down past you.  It needs an engine swap, but comes with the engine  :-/
