These are just a few Omegas sporting deep dish wheels. They're from my Catera/Omega Album and there are probably more. Don't ask me what brands they are, or their sizes. I'm sure others can help with that. You asked for pictures, so I gave you pictures.

Flip through my album for others, but make sure you have plenty of time. It's a big one.

Omega General Help / Re: g cams

Thanks Zirk. I've learned a lot over that last few days. Now I've got to convince my cousin the Ace Mechanic to build me a Frankenstein V6 from a 3.2L block with 2.5L heads, 3.0 4x"G" cams, and all the rest. If it happens I'll come back and report. Please be patient, it may take a while.  :)

If I've got it straight the 4x"G" set-up will increase the torque and push it higher up the rev range, as well as increasing the HP. That's great news. I assume we use the timing marks on the exhaust "G" cam the same way we would on the "A".

Over here all the focus is on swapping in LS1 V8s or SC3800 V6s. I can count the finished V8 Cateras on one hand and no 3800s. Most owners think the L81 is a fragile piece of junk. Me, I love how it wants to rev. Cadillac castrated it electronically robbing it of power and top speed. At least this engine will give us back what Cadillac took from us.

I'm not in the position to do this yet but I have a cousin who's a mechanic and owns a Catera Sport like mine. He'll jump on this once I give him the details. Over the past few days you guys on OOF have opened the possibility of more performance from our L81.

Thanks for your help and your patience.

I gleaned a little knowledge about camshafts following you guys, made the mistake of digging deeper, and found this:

The chart lists the X30XE's 2x"G" & 2x"A" cams but there's no mention of the 4x"G" option. Forgive my ignorance but does 4x"G" mean using "G" intake camshafts as both intake and exhaust? Try not to laugh at the stupid Yank but I'd rather ask a dumb question now than do something even dumber later.

Omega General Help / Re: lowering Springs
« on: 10 October 2014, 00:02:08 »
The '97-'99 Catera was sprung softly compared to the '00 facelift model. Whether it was equivilent to the Elite or Standard I can't say. In '99 cadillac introduced the Catera Sport to the line-up. Damped firmer and sprung stiffer it was still not to MV6 specs. That set-up became the standard '00-'01 Catera suspension tune. The '00-'01 Catera Sport finally received the full boat MV6 suspension package.

I can't believe old cheapskate GM would pony-up for new springs unique to the Catera so if I was to guess I would say the '97-'99 Catera used the Elite tune. The '99 Catera Sport and '00-'01 Catera shared the standard Omega tune. The '00-'01 Catera Sport used the MV6 suspension. My '01 Catera Sport uses '04 Pontiac GTO springs front and rear. I can tell they are stiffer but not by a whole lot.

My Sport is also equipped with Koni Sport dampers front & rear (the fronts set to mid-firm, the rears set full firm), so to be fair my judgement with regards to ride quality might be skewed. Still, the ride isn't what I'd call harsh.

Don't know if you know this but the front & rear springs from the Monaro will fit the Omega B saloon. They're a little stiffer and lower it 25.4mm all around. I've got them on my Catera and love 'em.

Everything I've found for the Catera (suspension related) can be found below. The vendors are primarily in the USA but I'm sure you you can find the same or equivalent on your side of the big water.

You could try these guys. Not sure if they still offer these products but it can't hurt to ask.

Here's the link to my Catera/Omega album. Thousands of pictures so grab a brew and get comfy. It'll take a while.

I've been following the conversation here trying to find bits of info we can apply to our Cadillac Cateras and their 3.0L V6s. Could you tell me how a 3.0 with 2xG is different from one with 4xG? Considering our ECU limits the Catera to a 120 MPH top speed, my goal would be increased acceleration, a quicker ET, more overtaking power. Our ECU cannot be chipped so we have to make HP & Torque the old fashioned way, with bumpy sticks, bigger pots, and more squish.

Marks DTM Calib turned me on to the 3.2L block with 2.5L heads. He said using the G intake cams on the 2.5L head was the way to go. I didn't know about the different cams and now I find you guys talking about 4xG vs. 2G/2A cams. Would a 3.2/2.5 mutt motor like that benefit more from 4xG or 2xG/2xA cams as far as mid-range torque goes?

You may be right. My diagnostic abilities wane after the first thousand miles of Atlantic. The same front/horizontal bushing we use is also used on the BMW M5. I found this years ago when investigating my shudder:

Quote
Korman Autoworks:
Regarding the 1988 to 1995 BMW M5:
The E34 chassis and front end shimmy go hand in hand, especially with the addition of larger wheel and tire packages. This shimmy mimics warped rotors, and is most noticeable under light braking from highway speeds. Our hard rubber bushings address this problem as well as improving steering feel and "turn in".

87
You might be barking up the wrong tree. I believe your problem is caused by the control arm bushes. Worn or damaged front suspension bushings will cause a violent shaking when braking. It feels like warped brake rotors but it's really caused by the front bushings' loss of alignment control. Instead of keeping the front wheels pointing in the right direction while braking the bushings flex excessively under braking, letting the tires flop around.

I had the same exact problem a few years ago and replacing them with polyurethane bushings cured it. I went with poly for their durability, longevity, and of course the improved handling. I haven't noticed the supposed harshness they impart. Whether you choose to go with poly or rubber, new bushings will fix the shaking.

A well put together 3.2 with the increased CR and a little fettling on the inlet plus the better cams should see around 230-240bhp

Sounds good. Thanks.

Hi ...Do you have a picture of the "Rubber Donuts" so I can get an idea what I'm looking for.. plus to explain it to my guys who...Don't speak English. Is it an easy job to change them?
Cheers ;)

I need to have the cam belt, tensioners, cam cover gaskets etc done. Plus I think it's gonna need a clutch doing soon.

Don't forget the Oil Cooler, Crankcase Breather, and Heater Bypass Valve. Might as well cover all the bases.
