With all this obsessional hand wringing and hand washing I reckon  therapy for OCD will cost the NHS billions after this has all blown over.....which it will. ;) :D

My take on events.

Yes. We all need to be vigilant and responsible but I think we are starting to reach a tipping point where paranoia and fear are taking over from rational logical thinking. This to me is far more worrying than the virus. Objective reporting of the virus would be good but sadly all media outlets like the news of the day to be 'sensational'......  much like a headline from that famous redtop.....The Sun. 'Gotcha' springs to mind.

It looks as though China is getting the virus under control following 3000 death from a population of 1.45 billion. Probably a large number of these would have died of  seasonal flu anyway.

Other family members to be concerned about? Which was the meat of STMO's post.

My elderly parents passed away some years ago. So no concerns for me there, unlike some others here at OOF, as the elderly are far more at risk.

Although I rarely, if ever, mention  'the product of my loins' ;D I have been married several times (at least, it seems) and have 'a small collection' of adult children'. With one or two exceptions from the more intelligent amongst them relations have not been great, or even good, for a long time. :-X They live their own lives, are fit and healthy and will be fine. Nuff said. :-X

I also have a 2 year old son who lives with his mother and 'her fella' :-X I currently pay £500 PCM ( not to mention the cost of new laptops) which I think is very generous. This figure is reviewed and mutually agreed every 12 months to keep money-grabbing solicitors and other assorted  legal professionals out of the financial equation .F*uckers. :-\ Being very young my understanding is that the Opti nipper is in a very low risk category......although obviously I am still concerned, but not paranoid. :y

I feel this virus is bringing out both the best and the worst in human nature. While some people are selfless and altruistic, others are selfish f*uckers.

I really hope this virus doesn't turn us all into 'frightened selfish children'.........we'll be fine. :y

And.....oh yes, STMO......you are a big northern jessie. :D ;D ;D

To be honest Steve, at times my behaviour leaves much to be desired.

But, to my credit, I do take financial responsibility for my 'human flaws'

Mrs Opti tells me I'm a bastard, but fortunately for me 'her kind of bastard' :)

Just received this from a friend:

DIRECTIONS
St George’s Hospital London

Virus Detection:
The simplest way to distinguish Coronavirus from a Common Cold is that the COVID-19 infection does not cause a cold nose or cough with cold, but it does create a dry and rough cough.
The virus is typically first installed in the throat causing inflammation and a feeling of dryness. This symptom can last between 3 and 4 days.
The virus typically then travels through the moisture present in the airways, goes down to the trachea and installs in the lungs, causing pneumonia that lasts about 5 or 6 days.
Pneumonia manifests with a high fever and difficulty breathing. The Common Cold is not
accompanied, but there may be a choking sensation. In this case, the doctor should be called immediately.
Experts suggest doing this simple verification every morning: Breathe in deeply and hold your breath for 10 seconds.  If this can be done without coughing, without difficulty, this shows that there is no fibrosis in the lungs, indicating the absence of infection.  It is recommended to do this control every morning to help detect infection.

Prevention:
The virus hates heat and dies if it is exposed to temperatures greater than 80°F (27°C). Therefore hot drinks such as infusions, broths or simply hot water should be consumed abundantly during the day.  These hot liquids kill the virus and are easy to ingest.
Avoid drinking ice water or drinks with ice cubes. Ensure that your mouth and throat are always wet, never DRY. You should drink a sip of water at least every 15 minutes. WHY?  Even when the virus enters water or other liquids through the mouth, it will get flushed through the oesophagus directly into the stomach where gastric acids destroy the virus. If there is not enough water, the virus can pass into the trachea and from there to the lungs, where it is very dangerous.
For those who can, sunbathe. The Sun's UV rays kill the virus and the vitamin D is good for you. The Coronavirus has a large size (diameter of 400-500 nanometers) so face masks can stop it, no special face masks are needed in daily life.
If an infected person sneezes near us, stay 10 feet (3.3 meters) away to allow the virus fall to the ground and prevent it from falling on you.
When the virus is on hard surfaces, it survives about 12 hours, therefore when hard surfaces such as doors, appliances, railings, etc. are touched, hands should be washed thoroughly and/or disinfected with alcoholic gel
The virus can live nested in clothes and tissues between 6 and 12 hours. Common detergents can kill it. Things that cannot be washed should be exposed to the Sun and the virus will die.
The transmission of the virus usually occurs by direct infection, touching fabrics, tissues or materials on which the virus is present.
Washing your hands is essential. The virus survives on our hands for only about 10 minutes. In that time many things can happen, rubbing the eyes, touching the nose or lips. This allows the virus to enter your throat. Therefore, for your good and the good of all, wash your hands very often and disinfect them.
You can gargle with disinfectant solutions (i.e. Listerine or Hydrogen Peroxide) that eliminate or minimize the amount of virus that can enter the throat. Doing so removes the virus before it goes down to the trachea and then to the lungs.
Disinfect things touched often: cellphone, keyboard, mouse, car steering wheel, door handles, etc

I don't generally go out much anyway, but will still be making small adjustments in regards to that[e.g. ordering shopping on line and having it delivered rather than going to the supermarket in person]and I very very rarely get visitors/go visiting o no great hardship there. That only leaves me having to walk the dog[I may even cut that to just taking her on the garden] and as I have a pre-payment electricity meter once a month to the local shop to get that topped up.Whether ultimately this will prove enough remains to be seen.Battery on the car will probably got flat in that time but that's no big deal.My eldest daughter[who lives only a few miles from Stemo]normally works on the admin side at a school local to her has to keep working to help looking after key workers kids while my youngest daughter works in the petrol station of their local Tesco in Essex and has been told she has to keep working as she's a key worker. My son over in California has been working from home for at least the last two weeks.

May be easier said than done, Mr Baza.

All the supermarkets we have tried are booked solid for 3 weeks, after which time there is no facility for further orders. :-\

Possibly different in your neck of the woods though. :y

Micro-bioligists, and virologist use a 10% bleach solution on all surfaces, why because ,"bleach kills every oppsing thing"  that was the exact way it was told to me by a research chemist, .. would I believe them  Yes.
