« on: 16 January 2024, 12:27:34 »

I posted a reply in the  welcome section regards the CF van.

At work we had a fleet of CF vans for daily deliveries and on occasions I used the works CF pickup or a CF van to go pick parts up.

1st drive in one I locked up all 4 brakes just getting used to the van (Quite impressive but totally unexpected.)   :-X

At the time I had (and passed my test in )a HA Viva van so obviously the CF was the biz with the size/more power and those brakes. ::)

As times went by the vans went FWD and the CF stopped production for things like the Rascal van. :-\

Reading a car mag one day there was an artictle about drag racing vans.  So 1st thought was a Rascal with a V8 in the rear for the rear wheels. but keep the original setup to drive it there as a FWD.

The dream never really went away and I got to know a compamy in Doncaster (BH Autokraft) who built V8 dragsters etc. After a guilded tour it seemed putting a V8 into anything was basically limited by imgination and finance. (plus ability and physical dimentions)

The finance and time have never been there for what I wanted to build, but if I had the money would I build a dragster van, Not sure.

But having seen some of the crate engines available these days and watching the American TV progs (Counts Kustoms and Gas Monkey Garage, Diesel Brothers etc)

I have seen a nice choice of engines and reckon I would stick with GM.

https://nelsonracingengines.com/collections/ls-motors

So many creative people and companies out there these days I dont know what I would build if I had the money.

Would be a choice of the van or a Bandit Trams Am at the moment. :y

Rascal was mid engine rear wheel drive, they salesmen used to get despatched with them to the Melton Road in Leicester to flog whenever a trade in one arrived into stock.

I always joked that I would get the apprentice one as he hankered after a mid engine vehicle

Not a CF van, but a rather nice build all the same. Thought this might tickle your pickle Skruntie....

Nice, but not for me, there is a nice one that parks in a village not too far from me.

There was a yellow stepside Chevy pick up years ago that I liked, it had a straight 6 in it, the guy apparently used to drive to drag race meeting on a basic carb and when he got there swapped the maifold and put tripple 48's on it.

I was a member of Steel City Cruisers when I was teenager and there was some fantastic cars in the group even in the late 70's early 80's

One of them was the Invader Van.  I remember looking far more aggresive than these pics show, Also seen the CBS van at one of the meetings.

Just looked the club up, seems they are still running and host the Abual Car Show in Kilnhurst, Rotherham every year.

I'll have to look up that Kilnhurst show as I'm trying to work out whereabouts in Kilnhurst they'd hold a show. Did go to a show many years ago(with Autobahnstormers) hosted by Steel City Cruisers at a sports and social club between Canklow Road roundabout and Tinsley.

Details from 2012 show

Location: Hooton Lodge

City/Town: Hooton Roberts, Rotherham, S65 4TE

Phone: 01709541116

I think the Kilnhurst car show is here.

My Dad had the Honda version. Honda Acty?  :-\

It had something like a 650cc twin mid engine RWD, and was actually quite good fun to drive.  :y

All of which gave it maximum traction at the rear*, which made it out handle an F1 car, added to the fact Mansell was a pussy ;D

*Joking aside, I found my (much later) tranny too much of a handful, esp in the damp, without it being heavily laden ;D

Pretty certain I have seen this one. Had a V8 meet up in Wakefield and he came along as he was friends with one of our V8 lads. I think he said it had just had the full quattro drive train fitted to make it a bit more "sure footed"

I very very nearly binned a tranny trying to get it back to the hire place in time to avoid a fine. I hadn't driven a van in a couple of yrs and had forgotten about a lack of weight, skinny Chinese tyres and damp roads.

Let's just say my ar$e was twitching like a rabbits nose. And if there had been anything coming the other way there would have been an almighty accident.  ::) :-[
