less than 3 years light use & it`s knackered
We took it to the Apple store & they want to replace the logic board... over £400 please >:(

I suggested they fix it with 50% off for a goodwill gesture.
Looks of sheer amazment from the staff said it all.
only comment we got was "But if you had taken out the extended warranty etc etc"

Only now do I realise both processors are hard wired onto the L/board :o
What a crappy design that is. ::)

My mum is in her late eighties & started to tell stories of her young life
Born in emsworth village in the mid twenties her mum was a local lass, but her dad was an ex-career soldier from up north the staffs area I`m thinking
I`m led to believe this because we have his hand written training notes from when he attended a farriers course at Aldershot in may 1914 (5694 L/cpl E. Handley) C. Company South Staffordshire regiment. Mum still has wallet containig an array of Medal ribbons, sadly no medals. He passed away in 1936 when my mum was just 10 years old. We don`t know his correct date of birth but my mum recalls he never mentioned WW1 but he spoke of his time in south africa. I applied for his service record card but it is no longer on file. about the only records that are kept is his service medal record card from WW1. We visited his grave in westbourne cementary & in 1936 he died at the age of 51. Mum wonders about his young life & his time the war. Looking at the medal ribbons they contain the campaign medals from WW1 including 1914 star with clasp & roses. the Queens south africa medal & the Kings south africa medal. Now if he was in the second boer war & received the Queens medal ( 11 October 1899 to 31 May 1902.) that makes his age 15 or 16? surely to young to serve in action. I`m just wondering if his date of birth is correct or was older than he was letting on? I`m at a loss now of where to look for more info.

General Discussion Area / I think I`m becoming a hoarder
« on: 05 March 2013, 21:56:58 »
I now seem to have started another tool box & that makes number 6
Not counting  a large carry-all stuffed with tools & other stuff in the boot.
Following tradition, today we walked around the site of another company gone bust in the area where I work. Loads of sundry stuff just left lying about in the CP.
I scored some very handy sized bits of stainless steel sheet plus a comprehensive looking sealed tray of washers lobbed in the skip. some nice looking bits angle iron, crikey a makita cordless drill but no battery -only a whole box of gaffer tape & then it dawned on me ........what am I gonna use all this stuff for? -Took a real effort but I left it all behind.
So this must be early warning signs of cleptomania or something equally illegal.
It`s not nice to realise I actually put some of the nicer stuff..............under a bush!!!
I don`t feel guilty, cos the pikeys with their wolves will find it soon enough & will pick the bloody place clean.

If you`re into warbirds you have probably heard of "Flying Legend" guru Eric Goujon. In the red bull team Corsair he makes it look easy.

Go here for his latest upload & follow the link to his site.

Dropped into halfords this afternoon for some blades & a wonder around

3 hoodies down by the oil had me in stitches, the banter went something like this:-

"nooooooo I can`t afford any more oil can I. Mum gave me my birfday money early so I could buy some clothes, not spend it on this shit"

Hoodies mate. " my dad saves his old oil up, so we can use that, at the speed you drive that shit won`t even touch the sides"

"The oil light thing keeps coming on though, even when we put more oil in that can`t be right can it"

"Yer man cos the revs burn it up & now you need some more".
"but that funny noise is getting bad"........sniggering........she luvs it don`t she.........oh oh oh ..........sniggering.
Young female shop assistant wonders by..........look man a proper pawg...........oh oh oh.

bumped into them again at the checkout, they bought some sand paper & a can of paint.

General Car Chat / mini cooper s
« on: 20 January 2013, 13:03:02 »
Hello guy`s, I took a look @ my sister in law`s mini cooper S (2005) this morning.
here`s the problem as diagnosed by the dealer @ the beginning of december.
The car`s engine is making a metallic grinding/ringing noise so it needs a new super charger.
Here`s the actual problem
The air/con compressor clutch has now finally seized & snapped the drive belt.

How easy is it to swap out the A/c pump? is a bunch of special tools required?
The main dealer says they can easily replace the pump when they replace the supercharger!

But the working area in front of the engine is tiny.

General Discussion Area / ruddy bad drivers
« on: 17 January 2013, 22:43:20 »
I got tailgated by a fairly large wagon for about half mile & I mean really close.
I then joined the slip to go south on the A3M hardly signalled right to merge onto the m/way. Then got almost buried by my tailgater, who decided he couldn`t follow me any longer but passed me on the slip & then took his time about it.  Instead of accelerating I`m slowing down pretty sharpish to miss the rear end of this thing. Aggressive driving puts it mildly in my estimation. Once I did join I realised his engine governer must have kicked-in because  I matched his speed which was around 50 mph. Bloody minded bully boy. If he was expecting a reaction out of me he might now get one A company web addres was splashed all over the cutain side wall, I`ve now got half a mind to dob him in.
