Work continues apace. Found the metal pipe that goes from master cylinder to the rubber clutch feed is goosed. 2000 V6 if it makes a difference. If someone still has a stash that would be useful...

Or are they the same across all manuals? In which case I may try my luck with a breaker.

I assume they cannot be repaired as the fitting is weird.

Long shot but the project came with no front door cards fitted. Putting a spare set in and realised the car also doesn't have any inner window scrapers, the rubber bits that sit betwixt the top edge of the door card and the window. 1/2 inch thick rubber.

If anyone has a spare set...?

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Wtd - 3.2 / 3.0 FL bits
« on: 04 July 2025, 13:45:32 »
Currently in need of -

Pair of usable oil cooler pipes (local hose specialist thought I'd landed from Mars when I asked them)

Pair of front hubs
Full set of brake calipers

3.2 exhaust manifolds if anyone has some spare

IDK if the following bits are the same pre and post FL?
Decent handbrake frame and gaiter
Gearshift gaiter and frame possibly (mine has apparently gone walkies)

General Car Chat / Another thank you for Mark and the DVD crew
« on: 03 July 2025, 20:48:26 »
New belt and kaboodle on the project engine. After roughly half an hour of turfing out drawers I found the safe place I'd left my DVD. It really is invaluable so thank you again. Must be the tenth I've done with it at least.

Omega General Help / Plugging SAI manifold holes
« on: 03 July 2025, 13:29:58 »
Stripped the 3.0 for the project.

Currently mid work and removing SAI system. Rather than using a plumbing fitting on the pipe, can the holes be plugged into the manifold?

Haven't looked closely how it's all attached but just trying to neaten everything up so getting rid of unnecessary bits would be ideal.

Omega General Help / Oil cooler pipe replacement
« on: 02 July 2025, 22:28:21 »
Started stripping the engine for the purple project.

Oil cooler pipe is rusted through, and in removing it I discovered the fixing was also shot, having become one with the pipe. Gently trimmed it with the watchmaker's grinder to remove it.

Obviously no longer available, option 1 is to find a good used set but failing that... I'm assuming Pirtek or similar will be able to make me a replacement? It's only a pipe with a flare each end, right?

Stopped with a broken Elite estate near the entertainingly named Cockfield in Co Durham earlier, chap said he had the AA en route and was happy to wait, just wondered if it was an OOFer?

Was gone by the time we came back two hours later so either the AA had been or the owner had pushed it into a field and walked home...

Omega General Help / Rear track rod bolt size?
« on: 22 June 2025, 15:55:49 »
Currently on the missing list are the two 90468842 bolts that bolt the rear track rods on. Anyone know what size they are so I can get some spangly high tensile replacements?

General Car Chat / Bargain bushes for Carlton botherers
« on: 13 June 2025, 21:05:20 »
Doing a spot of online shopping for the project and spotted these. Obviously no good for Omega B but if anyone still has a Senator or Carlton...

https://ebay.us/m/6in5RS

Seller has a few bits for old Vauxhalls and others, I got some bushes the other week and they turned up PDQ.

Omega General Help / Centre tie rod availability
« on: 09 June 2025, 11:50:06 »
Half help, half PSA... It appears that nobody makes the centre tie rods for RHD Omegas any more. Part number 90510648.

I thought I'd found someone selling them (made by a company called ABS) but it's a mistake in the listing and when they checked its for LHD.

If anyone hs any idea where I might be able to get one new, before I find a breaker...that would be handy... Since I ended up cutting the old rusty mess of the old one off the project. Abroad is fine, I've got a lot to do on the car...

Wee fork shaped thing between steering box and inner wing. I know it's important. I'm fairly sure I know where I've put it.

I'm just curious what it's for and why it's available in different thicknesses?

Omega General Help / Plod spec engine bay fuse box?
« on: 22 May 2025, 21:22:03 »
As ever I am concentrating on the important things while the car has no engine, interior, or running gear.

While repairing some wiring where the plod kit had been soldered in originally... Noticed that the front panel of the fusebox was a separate piece. Like the nose plate had clips around it so it could be removed which has made it a piece of cake to unwrap and sort the looms.

The other one is currently elsewhere so I can't just go and check - I'm not going mad, this is an unusual type of fusebox... Right?

Yes I live a deeply interesting life. Shush.

Omega General Help / Front subframe captive nut
« on: 18 May 2025, 18:13:56 »
Stupidly thought I'd get a bit done on the project this afternoon, and as I'm sick of tripping over the front subframe I thought Id bolt it up.

I have done everything nice and slow with a coffee break every, ooh, four minutes. My blood type is "caffeinated".

However it feels like the drivers side rear bolt is binding rather than tightening. At the moment the frame is resting on jack and stands with four loose bolts.

It is a captive nut inside the chassis rail, I'm sure, but it seems like it has developed a taste for freedom. In a rare moment of good sense I have closed the bonnet and walked away rather than going full Basil Fawlty as I usually do.

I haven't looked at it yet, too busy sulking, but I am now planning ahead to one evening this week when I can set to with my swear jar - firstly if it is no longer captive is there (supposed to be) a proper hex head I can get my tame assistant to hold a socket on while I tighten the bolt in?

Or... Other alternatives? I suspect I can't get the welder in the hole but in any case it's all got lovely fresh paint I'm not keen on burning off again... But I value having a properly safe and secure attachment for the subframe.

I can't remember if it came out cleanly or fought me, it was months ago.

Anyone got an FL ashtray with the intact spring and clip to keep it closed? :y

After some vigorous hoovering I've managed to pull the seat wiring apart on my 2003 FL.

This has brought the airbag light on. Swearing has happened. There are some soldered and crimped wires on the airbag circuit which obviously aren't factory. Its the crimps that have fallen apart however I don't know which one went to which wire.

I've tried comparing them to the other project but helpfully the wiring harness colours must have changed between early and late facelifts.

In the car loom I have a blue/ orange and a purple/ orange wire coming from the yellow airbag loom. I need to connect these to the blue and brown wires on the seat, the yellow plug.

Do any of you wonderful people have access to a wiring diagram or indeed just know which one goes to which? I want the airbag system to work and also not blow the side of the seat out if I do it wrong...

Safe to say I'll make sure they're nice and secure before refitting to avoid a repeat...
