Omega General Help / Under carpet bitumen
« on: 24 November 2024, 20:19:53 »
Carpet removed and some of the bitumen has necessarily been removed so I can use the old sparkly glue gun.

Is the bitumen the same as the roofing stuff you get from the Toolfixes or Screwstations? Or is it something particular?

TIA!

Today in the world of the purple project I've been carrying on with the inner rear arches. Both sides looked to have surface rust but nothing too bad until I started digging... Where the floor meets the inner arches under the back seat - both sides have rotted under the seam sealer.

This is as well as the spare wheel well which felt a bit... Flexible... And also had rotted the outer 1/2 inch almost all the way round.

On the plus side I was expecting the rear turrets to be made of hope and underseal but luckily they've survived.

But yes, anyone who still has one... Give it a good check before it becomes terminal! It's only my patented cocktail of idiocy and stubbornness that's going to get this one back on the road!

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Wtd - pair of front hubs
« on: 05 October 2024, 17:33:04 »
If any of you wonderful people have a pair of front hubs laid about... Both the project ones are fairly knackered and I'd rather just Hammerite up some complete ones than mess about changing bearings...

Omega General Help / What is this widget for? Under battery tray
« on: 14 September 2024, 18:09:33 »
https://photos.app.goo.gl/QAu7yZYgoatzNYWp9

If that link works... If not its a connector, with red wires coming out, held to the inner wing under the battery tray by a bracket with two small hex screws. Next to the earthing point.

I do think I asked this last time I was standing in an Omega engine bay but my search has come to nothing. I think it might have been air con related which is good if so,  because I will throw it in the bin.

(And yes I do have more pressing issues like the fact the car is made partly of bran flakes. All in good time)

General Discussion Area / There's a blue ex police Omega on eBay...
« on: 12 September 2024, 13:39:14 »
... previously sold a few times to and from a certain Dorset based seller

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/286051491295?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=S8U8v2BrSZO&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=RasGDlBbRaO&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

I have no affiliation with the seller other than considering putting a restraining order on myself so I don't buy it...

I'll be fitting new B4s and springs to the purple project (if it doesn't fold in half overnight). Got a full set of wishbones, springs and shocks that were fitted.

They are old, scabby and rusty but might keep something moving.

Don't know what spec they actually are, not impossible that there's some Carlton bits in here.

Either way they'll be going to scrap by next week but if they can be of use to anyone before then. I dislike waste.

Omega General Help / Drivers side box removal
« on: 08 September 2024, 11:09:42 »
I'm having a moment and can't think what the proper name is of the little locking box down to the drivers right knee, so if there's a guide for this please tell me and call me names.

Either way I need to remove it because it's become it's own microplanet and Bill Oddie wants to study it.

I've took out three screws (two pointing inwards, one under the headlight switch) - but it still seems stuck and I don't want to just pull it... Any advice is appreciated!

Omega General Help / Fuel filler cut-off - hoses? Witchcraft?
« on: 10 August 2024, 13:40:13 »
So I thought I'd treat the big thing to a nice full tank of fuel yesterday. Got home (a mile journey) and it smelt a bit fuelly, but I assumed I was clumsy and had filled my shoes up by accident.

Today I went to move him, and immediately got a lungful of fumes. Got under and it was pouring fuel like the water in a side display of a Chinese buffet restaurant.

All hoses were secure and undamaged but it was obviously as the tank got warm, pressurising over the top and out of the pump seal. Quart in a pint pot situation.

Anyway I put my cigarette out and drained a good gallon (about £9 worth I think at today's prices). Currently airing out to get the smell out of the fabric...

I know (think) there's some pipes that run off the side of the filler neck and I can only assume one of them is knackered, missing, or blocked, or going the wrong place. I can't imagine the level it cuts off is actually adjustable.

Any advice on where to start looking would be appreciated. It's something I should have checked when I had the car in pieces but that's by the by.

Clearing out the house continues. Got a four foot stack of old VW magazines that I inherited somewhere and have never opened most of them. Performance VW, Ultra VW, Volkszone, Camper/ Commercial.

They'll be off to the tip if not collected by someone so if anyone knows anyone then shout up...

As title - anyone needs them, give me a shout

No bulbs or holders.

General Discussion Area / Mr A Allbright
« on: 09 December 2023, 07:39:19 »
New project has arrived. 2000W plate V6 special in Persia Red (and rust. Mainly rust). It was owned by 2woody, formerly of this parish... But in the glovebox is a letter to a Mr Allbright who I presume was the first civvy owner.

Just curious if he's a member on here...?

Omega General Help / Did the roof aerial change places with the DBW?
« on: 09 December 2023, 07:33:44 »
I've just acquired another project... W plate 3.0 special. It's as rough as a badger's backside but as I peered admiringly out of the upstairs window I realised it has a grommet in the front centre of the roof... But nothing at the back end at all, no aerial, grommet, or lump of filler.

Both my 03 Special and my old 02 civvy spec had a little one at the back of the roof.

Did they change between the model years, or was the little one an option? I assume the grommet is covering where the aerial for some bit of plod kit was precisely and carefully fitted.

Yes I live a FASCINATING life.

General Car Chat / Fuel hose - careful now!
« on: 04 November 2023, 15:01:01 »
I know it's common knowledge by now but you really can't be too careful. I appear to have been caught out buying supposed fuel hose online, despite it being from a reputed seller. Can't see which because it's lost in the history files.

The "fuel hose" I fitted to Zeke less than 18 months ago has completely and utterly perished so I hve a wonderful flammable fountain going on under the back end... Haven't driven him for at least 6 months but charged the battery, turned him over and got dizzyingly high but no engine.

It's the last time I buy fuel hose from anywhere the staff aren't physically available for a good shoeing!

Just arrived in what I believe is called "The South" and outside our hotel is a rare silver Omega... Anyone on here? :D

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Wtd: FL plastic ashtray cover
« on: 27 January 2023, 08:46:07 »
Anyone got the above? Unfussed on what colour as it'll be getting painted into Attractive Ex-Plod Sparkly Grey like the rest of the trim, because I am a chav.
