General Car Chat / Re: Adhesive
« on: 01 May 2025, 13:27:06 »Looking at my new to me Mondeo grill earlier, I realised that the monkey that removed it from the donor car simply cut through the plastic tabs that secure the grill along the bottom.![]()
I'll try to secure it with some self tappers, but if that's not possible I thought I'd glue it in place.
Any recommendations for a suitable adhesive that will withstand heat, cold, wet and vibrations?![]()
Sticks Like Shit sounds good!
Where did you buy it from?

General Car Chat / Re: Cylinder Head Question.
« on: 24 April 2025, 21:59:04 »If you can provide the engineering drawings to confirm the factory tolerances then happy days.It can't be skimmed. The issue is that no one knows what is an acceptable amount of distortion.
As I understand it, the reason it can't be skimmed is that the head is triangular with the timing cover attached to the block, head and cam covers so any deviation has the potential to make it impossible to reassemble and seal.
They will take quite a few thou, they won't have been made to that level of accuracy in the factory and the gaskets and sealant would take up the delta.
Unlike you, I have spent enough years in engineering design to know dam well that the parts on that engine will not be machined to a tolerance that would not tolerate a fraction of a millimetre mismatch. If you were to add up the tolerance of all the mating items they will easily be closer to the 0.5mm level.
As Mark says, any head can stand a 7 or 8 thou skim, let's be honest here,a new head basically scraps the car when added to the parts list and the new head casting is probably bare so more work/ parts being needed

That injector is very prone to clogging, hence the low exhaust temps, I'd be looking there first

I drove most of the BYD range at the last British motor show expecting them to be shite, surprisingly they were much better than I expected them to be both in build quality and on the road.how long they'll last is anyone's gues

« on: 20 February 2025, 21:50:08 »They fill the Aneurysum with tiny little Platinum coils, and then maybe fit a stent to bypass it as well.
Whatever they do I hope all goes well for you Albs

« on: 17 February 2025, 22:17:06 »Mines a 2008 series 2 R5 5 cylinder, feels like it would pull a house down! Heaven knows what a chipped 5.0 V10 model would be like😱😱😱Yours is 174 bhp, mine has a few more ponies added(210 ish) but still not as quick as the V6 version.
The V10 has massive torque but not that big a bhp, still fun though and sounds great

General Discussion Area / Re: What has P*ssed you off today?
« on: 17 February 2025, 21:55:15 »Probably the diverter valve or maybe just it's diaphragm, we've replaced ours a couple of times over the last 10 or so yearsFirst of all, there is a lever on the side normally, so you can lock it to HW (it defaults to CH when not energised). Initially try watching it with just a call for hot water, and see if the lever moves. If it doesn't, manually lock the lever in the HW position to test - that should force the heat towards the hot water tank, rather than radiators.Boiler has decided not to give us hot water...lukewarm at best. Heating is fine....Sticky 3 way valve?
Is that an easy fix
Essentially, that valve will direct heated water from the boiler to either the rads, the hot water cylinder, or both, depending on current and requested temps.
Obviously, don't rule out faulty tank stats or settings.
I'm making an assumption that your boiler is original, and hasn't been replaced with a combi
I'f you're stuck, gimme a bell.
Its a combi, mate.....a Baxi

Ours was bought as a caravan tug, it's one of the few with 3.5 T towing ability although it doesn't do a lot of that nowadays
