flushing coolant facelift model

Heater still blows cold (2001 model) vacuum pipes seem ok... So i thought i'd try flushing the sysyem (looks abit grotty)....Whats the best way to do this? is the radiator drain tap visible without removing the under engine plastic shield.

Tap is easy to get at....its the passenger end of the rad at the bottom....normaly orange in colour.

Just stick your head under the front passenger wing in front of the wheel and you will soon spot it.

I can see a red plastic circular plug with a slit moulded into it (guessing for a screwdriver too fit) is this it?

Yes, can undo by hand sometimes, or just loosen with pliers...

It only drains about half, so may need to flush through a couple of times over next couple of weeks, esp with winter coming up it will be worth it...

I'd be gentle with the pliers... my drain plug sheared.  Luckily for me I was going to replace the radiator, just wanted to flush the system and not contaminate the new one!

Luckily the drain plug was ok -

Flushed the system still cold heater... :( vacuum pipes seem ok, unsure what else to look for. Any clues to prices Vaux will charge?

There used to be a pretty good how to , on flushing the coolant system at the other place [smiley=evil.gif] , are you sure there is coolant in the heater matrix , wont get hot air without it :y

Another thing a previous owner decided to break on mine :( bottom hose for me :-/

Manual heater or full climate climate control?

Both pipes to the matrix are hot, climate control.

 :y :y Disconnected every pipe i could find flushed the stystem again and again .. I even blew through some of the pipes (my head hurts)... finally a burning hot heater :) :) must have been some cr*p lodged somewhere.

May well have been, the old coolant was pretty clean... if there was an airlock would it make strange noises, if so mine did not.
