General Discussion Area / Npower again
« on: 27 September 2013, 12:21:02 »
My father died in March. Several calls to them to sort out account. They never followed up. In August almost 6 months after his death they make a refund to executor.

Now they have issued bills on line to an account that has been closed and only reason I checked on line is to look a state of closed account after refund cheque arrived. In March I asked for a new account in my name which they said had been done - but they have never issued a bill and prevented me entering meter readings on line.

They now say I have no account!!

Time to switch I think - but then Eon tell me I am better off with Npower on cost basis!!

WTF.

Have told Npower to write off the bills in my dad's executor's name.

I am afraid we cannot do that.
Ok what is your name please I am taking this to Watchdog.

Oh - would you settle for something less than full write off.

No.

We will refer it and get back to you.

WTF

General Discussion Area / Why pressure on A&E is created
« on: 27 September 2013, 12:12:00 »
My 3 year old grandson fell at pre school. They phoned my daughter to pick him up advising of bloody nose and to get him checked out. She doesn't think it is broken but not sure so phones doctors. At 10.30am this morning doctor's reception advises " we have no emergency appointments til 4pm". Yes but I just want you to take a quick look. No!!

So she was in dilemma and has ended up going to A&E due to pathetic service from GP.

Now she is sat  in a & e with a 3 year old.

General Car Chat / motorway services
« on: 25 September 2013, 21:00:37 »
Just sitting quietly in Norton Canes services on the M6 Toll - I do like these places when quiet - sausage, beans and chips tastes good and if I leave soon should make last orders and some at my northern local.

I must be a bit of a saddo to find enjoyment in this but journey has been a pretty good one after a busy start in Basingstoke

General Car Chat / BMW 335i power upgrade
« on: 25 September 2013, 07:56:22 »
The son of a friend is selling his 2009 335i coupe which has only 12000 miles on it. He has had it from new. He works in the production teams on tour with Roger Waters, Justin Bieber etc and so is always away hence the low mileage.

He is away at present and his father doesn't know much about the power upgrade done when new and just says there is a black box on it. My son is interested in the car as BMW have only offered him £12000 for it.

Anyone have any ideas what is most likely power upgrade to have been fitted and what that will do to insurance.

General Car Chat / Car insurance - gap in ownership
« on: 18 September 2013, 18:29:10 »
My son sold his Porsche today as baby due in January and they need to reorganise their vehicles to more practical approach. He has 14 days to find another car or Insurer will cancel his insurance. If he has gap in car ownership are there any ramifications for his NCB and discounts? He was hoping to just borrow one of mine or another family member where he is named on insurance to avoid making rushed decision.

General Discussion Area / Samsung S4 - Kies sync
« on: 08 September 2013, 09:05:04 »
Managed to get the S4 for my wife to replace the old N8 - the Samsunf smartswap software worked well so everything on N8 is now on S4.

Although we have clone phone so everything is backed up , I am currently sitting in front of a screen waiting for this Kies sync software to load for picture and music transfer and sync contacts with Outlook. Googled around and this software seems to have a very patchy history.

Any one used it?

General Discussion Area / Npower customer disservice
« on: 07 September 2013, 23:20:56 »
My daughter has her gas and electric with Npower. She got married last year but did not advise Npower - account is in her name.

She phoned to ask about £800 credit on her account ( I think this is more due to the idiosyncrasy of their accounting system rather than a genuine credit) but when she said she was now Mrs X they steadfastly refused to speak to her and would not even ask the security questions. Absolute jobs worth joke. So.... I registered online in her maiden name without problem and got the info.

Jokers

I am stood outside my mothers nursing home weighing up next steps re. a Kia Picanto left with engine running and keys locked in. Been here ages apparently and owner has not reported to care home admin. Possibly nicked but why draw attention by leaving engine running. Maybe give it a few more minutes and ring police

General Discussion Area / Under floor heating
« on: 28 August 2013, 09:00:04 »
I have solid floors downstairs and thinking of ditching the wall radiators in kitchen area and going for underfloor heating.

Seems to be very varied experiences on asking around on bills and whether electric or water heated is best. At this stage I have the option of tiles or wood floor.

Electric seems to be less problematic - any experiences from OOF members? Area is 27 sq metres but some of that taken up with units so no point heating under them so say 17 sq metres net.

General Discussion Area / Exchange ActiveSync - contacts back up
« on: 21 August 2013, 16:52:11 »
Just managed to successfully delete all my contacts from both a Windows Phone and a spare Nokia Symbian N8 which was linked to update the same contacts  via Exchange ActiveSync.

Yes - was able to recover easily via restore function on Hotmail account but still do not understand how it deleted from server when I had ticked the boxes that server data was to prevail. My plan was to wipe the Nokia and replace with the contacts from the Windows pkone as auto backed up on the hotmail account. Both phones now syncing fine but the ease of deletion is a concern.

Dangers of an old git getting a bit too clever.

General Discussion Area / Omega Kitchens
« on: 09 August 2013, 12:54:41 »
We need a new kitchen and the Omega Range (Doncaster based) popped up as one of the possible suppliers.

Is this an omen for good or evil? Reliability or annoying little  problems best ignored?

General Discussion Area / The lives we lead
« on: 02 August 2013, 16:15:18 »
I kid you not - just walked passed a guy equipped as follows:

Walking along the street sporting large bright blue headphones linked by bright blue wire to device in his pocket which I assume was his Ipod or phone. He was carrying and looking at an Ipad balancing a can of coke on the Ipad and smoking a cigarette at the same time. :(
