Project Tractor
« on: 18 January 2008, 15:28:52 »

Passed its MOT today :D, 4 advisories  :'(:

'Plastic sills' - had this last year on MV6. Arse covering exercise for MOTers
Diesel smell - can't deny, I have you new leak off pipes to fit (cant find leak)
Fr Discs pitted
Fr Pads low - not that low, but need doing with discs anyway.

I was concerned about the smoke test (those who saw the car a few months ago know why), but I stood behind when he did it, and it doesn't blow much out at all :)

As I understood it, the plastic sill cover could be masking no proper sill at all, but the as the MOT'er is not allowed to removed it to inspect behind it, he wouldn't be able to knock your MOT back for no/rotten proper sills.

Wahay! Another year's trouble-free ploughing ahead of you :y

Could the disks be pitted because the engine's been broken for such a percentage of time that they rusted?

BTW, one of my neighbours has got a mate who keeps visiting him in a tractor you'd be jealous of. rather great John Deere job with seat about 12 feet off the ground. Really suitable for negotiating a modern housing estate, Not!

Think he tried to rag it pulling out onto the main road last night. Made an almighty roar but it didn't seem to pull away any quicker, and the 8 gear changes to reach 20 MPH cramped his style a bit ;D

That appears to be the reason, and the reason for 'low pads' - he said the pads were guesswork based on what he could see.

No, the brakes need a bloody good service, and calipers cleaned so the inboard pads make proper contact with the discs  :-X

Its always nice when its that straightforward. I made the mistake of not giving mine a good service and blow out before the smoke test - hence an advisory on it  :(

Never mind eh

I've been in the same situation with my Astra shed. I can't see how you can be knocked back for low pads, when the braking is measured by it's abilty to stop the car. Even if there were only a dozen stops worth of lining left when it was presented for test it should still IMHO pass.

If I keep it, it may grow a removable one....

Its something of a joke as its done without any real load on the engine.

You are wrong - it takes a lot of energy to do a bus impression ;D

I am suprised it has anything that resembling a pad left!
