Just got back from my trip to Serek's garage in Huntingdon.
He did everything I was hoping for, and a bit more with the replacement of a lower engine pulley and an oil seal, all for the price he quoted me!
He even took the car for a test drive with me in it to see that everything was fine; how many other garages do that? He also pointed out that the front brakes need doing, but everything else was fine :y :y.
He had found though that the timing (last done by Vx) was out!! :o :o
Lovely guy who was keen to give me the best possible service. Excellent, and now would highly recommend to others! :y :y :y
Ron; I passed on your good wishes! :D :D
Set off at 0430 hours (so like my professional days!!), with only real hold-up on the M20 with a lorry blocking one section of motorway after an accident. But arrived, after a Services break, at 0800. Overall though a great journey up there when I achieved 33.9 mpg, the highest I have recorded; but I was driving at a steady speed of around 50-60 mph. Most unlike me!! :o :o ;D ;D
Had plenty of coffee in the Dunelm restaurant and read half of a book I have been meaning to read for the last 8 years; Doherty. R. Normandy 1944 The Road To Victory Spellmount (2004), after reading many others on the subject! So a great result all round :D :D ;)
-
How many times did you have to stop on the way back after all the coffee? Would have been about every 10 miles for me. :(
-
He certainly is!
Done lots on my cars, infact I've got a trip to see him soon for more work on the project car.
-
Glad all went well for you, Lizzie. Did you achieve a better mpg on the return journey after Serek's magic touch?
Is there an "Omega Saint" ranking category on OOF? If not, we should make on for Serek! :y 8)
Ron.

I told you a Vx dealer would likely get it wrong, they have not seen a V6 for years.
Glad you took advice and went to see him, with money saved you could probably go on a nice holiday :y

They were getting them wrong even when they were seeing them daily.!

Elderly people tend to piss the same number of times each night they used to have sex.
It's a substitution of sorts. Pissing replacing shagging. :)

Congrats, Lizzie....... :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Strangely only once STEMO, but I did try and stop drinking coffee an hour before setting off and drain myself well before I left! :D :D :D ;)
I stopped at the Welcome Break Service Centre at Birchanger Green on the M11 on the way up and going back down ;)

This guy is so impressive. He does what he says, and does it all at first class standards. Not surprised you and others use he all the time. Cannot see the point of getting my hands dirty now, well not with the major jobs anyway!! ;D ;D :y :y

No Ron, as I was stuck in slow moving traffic for a bit, then was not so careful with my top speed thereafter! Still returned 31.9 mpg though! :D :D :y

Thanks tunnie, yes all the advise was spot on :-* :-* :y
As for the saved money, it will ploughed into the Omega when more works are needed, which no doubt won't be long. The tracking and brakes are the next things, but for that I will use Protrye who have WIM facilities (as per other advice I have received!) :D :D

Do you remember the historic phrase A goodwine needs no bush, Lizzie? Serek doesn't need to advertise.....
Ron.

No point being articulate and erudite on this forum, Ronald. 8)
Most of us can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

Ok Doctor, but Lizzie was in retail and is into history, so I thought my comment was apposite.

Mines the same colour. Doesnt look that special in dull light, but looks really nice when the sun shines on it. Much prefer it to my previous Star silver. :)

Yes, and I again saw a pre F/L today in Ashford in the same colour as mine. Good condition and pulling a trailer, so it must be someone local. ;)

The one on the right is mine. Serek replaced the HBV for me. I'm going to part company with it soon.

I have a 2002 3.2 Elite saloon in this colour (Z594) with tan leather (in very good nick) which I'm breaking if anyone needs anything.....

Yes, I would like the set of across the top of the radiator plastic covers that clip together. Also the two round plastic windscreen wiper, nut covers and the set of four round plenum plastic bolt/ nut covers. In addition how much for one 17" ELITE alloy wheel? :y
-
i need to get to see serek soon, my baby has been neglected far too long. :(
-
Lizzie the 17" alloys on my Elite[unlike yours mine's a 3L]have more "slabby" spokes so look a lot different to yours.I don't know if there was a changeover date for the different styles or not-someone will know better or whether it was a case of all 3.2s having your style of alloy.

Ah, right thanks Baza :y
Just seeing if I could get a cheap spare alloy, but it is not essential really :D ;)
-
Best idea would be get in touch with him and ask if the ones he's got are the same style as yours and go from there :y

Changeover was around 2001...

What sort of condition does this spare alloy need to be?
-
Presumably round and free from cracks ::)
Not to mention absolutely mint lest it affects the value :D

I think the 'snowflake' alloy was introduced late in 2002 for the 2003 MY cars. You see some '52 Elites with them on; the majority were on '03 cars on wards.
I have all those plastic bits Lizzie. Send me a PM if you would. As regards the alloy - this car came with the older 5 spoke alloys. I do have a set of the later 'snowflake' alloys, but ideally I would want to keep them / sell them as a set of four.

They do!!! They look just like (or very similar to) the frost / snowflake symbol on the winter mode button next to the gear-lever on an auto.....

Later Omega rims being 'snowflake' alloys is my description of their appearance to differentiate them from the earlier Elite alloy. And looking at the above link ^, I know which look more like the snowflake symbol to me......

ahhhh you have a major misunderstanding :) you appear to think that "snowflake" wheels are the same .. .. you fail to realise that ..
"Scientists estimate the chances of two snowflakes being exactly alike are about 1 in 1 million trillion (that's a 1 followed by 18 zeros). Meteorologists think that there are 1 trillion, trillion, trillion (a 1 with 36 zeros!) different types of snowflakes"
... so getting hold of a set of 4 will be just a tad difficult !!!
:) :)
-
Just wait for it to snow then ;D

If you need a snowflake just trot along to your local university where you will find plenty! ;D
