Despite your assurance its not cam covers ,those are the usual and common culprits so really need a thorugh clean off and then carefully checking by rubbing a clean peice of tissue around all edges to be convinced.

Other possible areas are front cam shaft seals/leaking oil cooler unions/leaking oil filler tube, but my money is those cam covers.

Where abouts are you in Kent as happy to offer my advise when I am out and about. :y

hi there
its deff not cam covers . had them off thinking it was them . bone dry.
oil coming from back passenger side head . where the oil cooler pipes run . oil cooler unions are dry as well .
doing my head in not knowing where its coming from .

Are you sure its not the rubber "0" ring on the oil filler tube and allowing oil to run back along edge of head/cam cover joint.

Nothing much at the rear of the n/side head that would cause an oil leak,so must be running back.

Is it only evident from dripping onto the ground /running off the gearbox or is it laying anywhere else.?.How much oil is being dropped ??

Check to make sure it has a rubber "0" ring fitted.

it seams to run off the oil cooler pipes at the back of engine then down gearbox and from there its all over the underneath of the car .
but thats from driving on motorway.

The only real places you could get oil leaking and collecting on those oil cooler pipes is from the half moon on the n/side cam cover or tracking its way from the oil cooler union bolts.

I assume you have removed plenum and all intake/dividers to get a really good look at the valley and oil cooler area then ?

yeah we had her in bits last week to change cam cover gaskets as i was told it was them leaking .
then took intake out to check oil cooler unions . all dry.
could it be a cracked oil cooler pipe .( just thought of that ).

Split in oil cooler pipe is possible  although would have thought it would be visible with engine running and looking up from below. They are held at the back of the block with a metal cable support bracket and would be a very unpleasant job to have to replace.

I would have thought if one of them was leaking it would allow oil to run the full length of the pipe almost to the point where they join the block above the oil filter.Would be worth giving the entire area a thorough clean with rag and paraffin and drying of then running engine and looking closely at those pipes.

Doudt anything could chaff them as well supported unless the oil cooler has been replaced and they were bent out of the way on removal/refitting not too gently

as far as i know this car has never had any egine work done apart from i had the cam belt changed just after i broyght it even tho the history said it wasnt due for another 20000 miles.
just been on to the garage i get my mot's from and they said i can take it over and put it on a ramp so i can have a much better look from underneath.
