Disc back plate
« on: 18 July 2023, 18:10:09 »

Hi, I'm rebuilding my front calipers on my 3.2 and need to replace the back plate shield. Does anyone know where I can get a pair? Thanks 😊

Carried over from the Carlton/Omega A and Senator B. So I suggest that you PM Keith ABS and ask if he can help you out? If nobody on the forum has any.

Do they really need renewing as opposed to re-painting?

I assume then you mean FRONT shields then  :-\
NOT  the REAR back plates (because the rears support the handbrake shoes too ) :-\

Cos he's rebuilding his front calipers, then surely (presumably) he is referring to the back plate on the front hubs - that's how I read it before you lot started throwing spanners in the works!!

And no, I don't know a source of any....approx three years ago, the fronts were totally rotten on one of mine. I scoured my local scrap yards and found a decent set on a breaker so just swapped the complete hubs and knuckle. Not as easy these days though - Omegas are now a rarity in my local breakers.... :(

Assuming I  have correct numbers really difficult to find. I remeber some years ago rear plates were available from Germany (someone started re-production of them). Don't remember the name of that company but ordered one rear plate from them. Does anybody know whether they produced also front plates.

seeing as they are only dust shields rather than the rear ones which actually do a job then surely there must be a similar type on something that can be modded to fit (or will fit) the front style is certainly quite conventional .

There is no requirement for the front to be there at all for MOT in the UK ;)
probably why no one bothered to re-order or manufacture them.
they would only become an issue if the sharp edge risks damaging something else .
a pair of shallow pie tins with holes in the right place would do the same job (which is not much) IF you felt  the need  :P
Mmmm....pies  :P :P :P ;D

Hi, thanks for all your comments, yes I am trying to source to the front brake disc shields. I'm the process of taking it all apart, the  nearside has some of the original left so hopefully I will be able to find something similar  :)
