General Car Chat / Re: Astra Door Microswitch
« on: 24 May 2022, 18:23:13 »
Well, the car unlocked itself about 5 minutes after I locked it without this switch being connected!

Looks like a trip to the breakers then.

Help please. SWMBO's 1997 Astra Mk3 has started unlocking itself randomly and sometimes not locking all the doors. I am assuming it is the microswitch. I have removed it to get a replacement, the number seems to be Burgess 29/97 but I cant find a reference for this on the Web. Can anyone give me any pointer where I might get a suitable replacement.

Thank you.

Pretty sure it's the Starter motor/solonoid. Got a mobile mechanic coming to sort it tomorrow. Would do it myself but don't think the knees will take it at the moment. ;D

I shall certainly try the wood trick,
I shall check for 12v at the large connector.
If I check for 12v at the small connector presumably I will only get 12v if I turn the key to position 3, assuming the feed from the ignition barrel via the auto selector is intact?

Omega General Help / Failure To Turn Over.
« on: 21 February 2022, 15:17:13 »
Car started easily yesterday morning, drove about half mile to in laws house and stopped normally. On leaving tried to start, the demister fan was running on full so could not hear anything from the engine but car did not start.

All the regular light on the dash were showing as they would when turning on the ignition to position 2 but on turning to position 3 nothing happens.

Nothing dims, the headlights are still bright, I can't hear any clicking from the starter, just the usual buzzing from under the bonnet as things adjust.

Looking through posts on here I have tried putting 12v on the small solenoid connection direct from the battery whilst in neutral with the ignition in position 2 but still nothing.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Thank you.

Omega General Help / Re: Air Conditioning Compressor

LC0112G:

So if I was to do what you suggested ( Which I didn't do Greta. ::)) and if I were to hear the escaping gas, the the problem is either the pressure switch, the actual connection to the clutch, including the possibility of a broken wire, or the clutch itself.

I did not suggest you did that - I explicitly said you should NOT do that. ::)

But the answer to the question is yes, some kind of electrical, wire or connector problem.

My apologies  ;D

So a good place to start would be to pull the plug off the pressure switch, bridge the contacts on the plug for a couple of seconds and if the compressor starts then the problem must be with the switch?

Is ECO showing on the display?

If it is press it again and report back.

LO is merely a temperature setting and has the sum total of an empty beer can to do with whether the aircon is on or not.

ECO is not showing, air con is switched on.

Thank you for that. Nick W.

So what you are saying is that pressing the air con switch on the panel energises the relay which turns on the fans, but if the pressure switch in the system detects not enough pressure then the clutch does not engage on the compressor.

Omega General Help / Air Conditioning Compressor
« on: 06 October 2021, 13:48:47 »
Hi, advice needed please.

Air conditioning not working, I have started the engine, aircon on Lo.
Relay K60 pulls in and the front two fans start.
The compressor does not start.
I am thinking that if the relay pulls in and the fans start then there must be enough pressure in the system.
If that is correct then is the only problem the connection to the compressor clutch?
Or am I missing something?
 Thank you.

Omega General Help / Temp Gauge
« on: 29 April 2021, 14:24:21 »
Is there any way to check the connection of the spade connector on the sender for the temp gauge without removing the plenum etc?

It may or not be relevant, but I had the cam cover gaskets replaced last November but due to lack of use have only just noticed the gauge isnít working. :-[

What else might cause the gauge to stop working?

Thanks.

Where is the relay located?

The horn ring is presumably located on the steering wheel, can I get to this by removing the cowling behind it?
