I might have to get some of those. :)

How would you go about tightening to the correct torque if there isn't room for the torque wrench?

Changed the droplinks.

Is it something I am missing, but I couldn't get a socket on the top nut, not enough clearance between the suspension strut and the bodywork. Had to use a spanner instead.

I've been through the site but can't find any info on how to check if the wishbones need replacing.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Don't forget to tell your insurance company as they may class it as a modified vehicle!!!  :o :D

Looking around, I found most tyre suppliers don't list W/S or Winter tyre prices on their websites, the only one I have found so far, that actually categorizes by tyre type is this:

http://www.mytyres.co.uk/

If anybody else has found any other websites that actually list prices, please let me know as I interested as I expect to drive to the Ukraine to visit or hopefully to be living there this winter, where winter tyres are compulsory, if stopped by the police there you have to pay a bribe fine.  ::)
What part of Ukraine are you going to? I have been there a few times myself.

A small town called Tal'ne in the Cherkasy Oblast. It is about half way between Kiev and Odessa. If I'm using the motorway (E95) from Kiev to Odessa, I leave it at Uman and it is about 30 miles east from there.

My wife's family live in the village Sokolivochka just outside Tal'ne

My wife's family come from a village called Zhyznomyr, just outside Buchach, about 40 miles south of Ternopil.

We have been there in winter, -20C, my old 2.0 mig estate performed flawlessly. :)

We have also talked about living there, would be interested in how you get on. :y

It's probably been covered before but how do you check that the multi rams are working?

My 2.6 auto saloon only gives 16 mpg in town driving. Is this low?

It's very good of you to offer, I may need to take you up on it.

Would the best source of maintainance procedures be a Haynes manual?

General Car Chat / Astra Cambelt

Hello, thinking of changing the cambelt etc. on the wife's '97 Astra. Any advice on the best place for parts and a guide on how to do it would be most welcome. Engine is X16 SZR.

Thanks.

I too have nothing but positive comments to make about this forum. The maintainance guides and the answers to my questions, plus the loan of tools, has enabled me to tackle jobs that one year ago would have gone to the garage.

Keep up the good work. :y

I downloaded some MPEG 4 files today, the file names were originally in Cyrillic and so they came through as a series of blanks and dashes.

When I try to delete I get the message "cannot delete 7300    -         -            -        -2: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use."

I am at a loss what to do, any suggestions would be most welcome. :)

I would definately suspect a driver / software problem over a hardware problem because you say you can boot into safe mode OK.  If the hardware was a fault you would likely get the problem in safe mode aswell.

Have you recently updated any drivers or installed any new software, around the time the problem started?

Not that I recall.

I think the only out of the ordinary things that day were that I changed the M/B battery because I had to reset the clock every time I booted up and I watched the cambelt change DVD. :)
