Drivers door jammed
« on: 23 October 2020, 10:56:58 »

I've just replaced the drivers door lock mechanism and solenoid as previous one had failed and now the door is closed and will not open from the inside or outside.
When i first replaced it and closed the door it would open from the inside only so its definitely something to do with the handle. Now it wont open at all.
Is there anybody remotely near south london who could fix this for me. I dont mind a drive up the motorway somewhere.
Just had new pads and discs, rear exhaust in January, new bosch battery,  brand new alternator, and literally this week had a new water pump and timing belt kit done. Only done 75000 so a shame to scrap it but Ive lost all patience with it. 2003 2.2 cd auto

Does the exterior handle have any resistance or is it very light to operate with out any effort? Are you certain that the rods and ball / sockets are correctly located. If you are happy they are, then I can only think that the lock mechanism is faulty or jammed. Did you test the 'claw' where it contacts the striker before shutting the door?  Doesn't help you to open the door at this stage to check it though....

If you haven't replaced the door card, you stand a better chance to get open it from inside - if the door card is fitted, then you may have resort to breaking the door card. Being a CD you stand a reasonable chance of finding a replacement door card if it has to be damaged to gain access.

The door card is still off fortunately.
The handle definitely feels light with hardly any resistance.

I closed the door a good few times and each time it would only open from the inside and not the outside.
Then all of a sudden it would not open from the inside either

Say 19:30 or so at McDonald's south terminal.
That could be a lifesaver. Wherabouts and what time?

Apologies, thought I had posted this half an hour ago. Offer still stands

Many many thanks to Doctor Gollum who very kindly met me tonight and gave up his free time to inspect the jammed door.
Within 2 minutes he had the door open and after removing the replacement mechanism he then very quickly diagnosed the problem as yet another faulty unit.
He showed me exactly what part of the mechanism was causing the problem and more importantly, how to open the bloody door until I source another unit :D
Fingers crossed I can find one before too long :y

Ok, to update:

1. The internal mechanism of the original latch had failed, the handle mechanism return spring was weak and the release striker was loose on its shaft and consequently out of position.

2. The new mechanism is failed, this time the striker catch is binding and worn internally resulting in the handle mechanism not having enough movement to release the latch. Got it to work once from the handle.

A fully working and less worn latch required to sort. On the plus side, the lock motor works...

You're welcome ;) Pity we weren't able to completely fix it, but at least now the door can be opened, if only from the inside...

Nice to meet you as well :y

Following the expert step by step instructions of Doctor Gollum it was second time lucky for me and this morning I replaced the lock mechanism and my drivers door is now as smooth as the day it came out of the factory.
Just got to get the central locking problem sorted now but I will obviously start a new thread for that

Many thanks to everybody who contributed  :y
