Handbrake Warning Light
« on: 16 April 2021, 10:47:00 »

Good morning all from a very sunny highlands!

My HWL was flickering for a couple of days and now it is on constantly. Is there a switch under the handbrake itself? or where is it. I am a bit hampered with this damn rheumatoid arthritis that has suddenly appeared. TIA  :y :y

HWL comes on, when brake fluid is low or handbrake applied. Does the light stay on if handbrake released? Have you checked brake fluid level in engine bay?

From owners manual:-

Control indicator lights up when ignition is switched on if hand brake is applied and/or the fluid level for brake/clutch hydraulics is
too low.

Thanks addy! just had a look at fluid level and it is low. I will have to see if I have a leak somewhere. Cheers  :y :y

If it has vented rear calipers, stamped 42, then it needs vented rear discs.

But check all the pads whilst you're there. .  ;)

If it's a manual, remember to check around the gearbox too. As the clutch is feed from the same pot, granted slightly higher up (so if the clutch dumps all the fluid, the brakes still work.)

If the pads are ready to be changed, don't fill up the reservoir as it will mean you'll need to take some fluid out once the pads are done. If the pads need doing, just put enough fluid in to be over the min line.
