Heater and blower working now on PFL MV6
« on: 08 January 2022, 19:27:07 »

You may recall I had issues with my heater and blower - fans working but no heat nor blowing on screen or floors.

After checking numerous areas with no apparent faults - I’ve replaced the 4 “round” button electronic control panel with a spare I had.

This has cured the problem and now have heating and blowers

The problem I now have is changing the instrument bulbs - twist/lock ones whilst the panel is out, need to get new bulbs to be on safe side but remember these absolute buggers to fit

In the instrument panel?  There are not hard to fit? Or have I misunderstood what you are asking?

There’s 2 which are part inboard partially obstructed by the plastic cover - in my mind difficult to
get at even with long nose pliers.

No it’s on the electronic 4 dial control panel for the a/c and heating - there’s 2 onhete that are a pig to do. The instrument panel itself is ok

Ah, sorry, my bad.

Its been ages since I had to do a PFL climate panel, but I seem to remember the black plastic rear part unclips off, which gives full access?  The hardest part, from memory, is removing the climate panel from the dash in the first place.

Especially if a previous owner has mangled the secret hidden release mechanism!

I can see its a case of unclipping the circuit board to give access (carefully would be the phrase)- but the BULBS - yes I am shouting  >:(

The one that fits tightly has slightly offset contacts whereas the ones I got off Amazaon & Ebay have the contacts in line and wobble when push & twisted !!

I'm replacing them all whilst the set is out the car. Are these bulbs Vauxhall only ??

Fortunately I've withdrawn the controls on another MV6 in the past so familiar with the awkwardness of getting the control panel out/access without damage.

They are the 1.2W black push twist style but apparently there are a number of varieties  :-\

Any pointers anyone ?

Are you changing just the 1.2w bulbs in the climate panel, or the bulb and holder complete. It's been a while since I had my 98 Elite, but I'm sure I changed just the bulbs. The bulbs just pull out of the holder if I recall correctly.

According to EPC the part number is 9120630 (12 46 160) and there'll be 4 of them.

Climate panel ones are a combined bulb/holder, a fairly sure they cant be removed from the holder - but its been a while.

All 4 bulbs in the PFL panel are identical, and all 4 twist onto the PCB in the same manner.  Once you have access, none are any more fiddling than the others.

The post below was from when I posted on a similar thread back in 2010. I know that they aren't all removable but my PFL climate bulbs were removable but my dash display weren't. Maybe just the luck of the draw on what's fitted at the factory.  :-\

...plus you can buy the bulbs on their own, you do not need the holder (just pull bulb out).

Are you sure? I seem to remember replacing the bulbs in my old Vectra's climate panel and they looked similar to the type you describe but they were soldered into position, rather than just pushed in...

100% sure. I'm looking at one right now. It is even a Halfords part and can be found with their bulbs with the packet number 286.
The bulb glass goes flat on the end and has a wire bent up each side. Vauxhall were going to sell me the whole part until a technician walked past and asked me why I was buying the complete part when all I needed was the bulb. :y :y

The dash instrument panels had 2 (interchangable) types for the larger backlighting - one took a standard capless bulb, other the bulb holder had a fixed bulb.  But a blown bulb was replaceable either with just a capless, or with the fixed base/bulb, or a capless+a capless holder.

Apologies for any confusion.

There’s 5 of them and think they are one unit and can’t withdraw the bulb on that particular style.

If I could post a pic easily I would to show the different style, but haven’t got facility to do so.

The bulb holders are clearly different. I just don’t want to damage the printed board.

I’ll try a few part numbers but online shops seem to do one style - the wrong one

Well this is getting a nightmare - for part number 9120630

Rang Vauxhall near us - nothing held, listed at the factory stock nor at the Parts Hub.

Rang Euro car parts - nothing listed or cross matched to that number now - discontinued

Seen a couple of bulbs on ebay using that part number in Germany for £30  :-[

I've got about 20 of the standard fitment ones, I will have to see if I can alter them in any way and practice in an old control panel as don't want to damage the printed circuit

A simple job ........

Just to clarify that the image below is what you want the bulbs for.

I was lucky with my climate panel, it had the bulb and holder as shown below.

So I could just pop in to Halfords and buy these shown below to replace the bulbs.

I appreciate that they must have used different bulb and holder, fixed and replaceable bulb, in the same fitment as not all of them had a detachable bulb on Part No. 9120630 apparently.  :-\

Good luck in your search.

Yes they are the ones I need - been to Halfords and nothing at all in stock like it - only the actual bulbs to push into the holders

Well its strange as the replacement control panel I have will only accept the bulbs I need (the ones in your pic) - maybe the older control panel may have been slightly different ??

I therefore have only 1 bulb holder that will fit into the replacement control unit

I have actually sourced 2 bulbs today from a Renault Dealer this morning in our village - but he only had 2 off

I have 1 of the holders that you can replace the bulb in - yours if you pm me your address.

Used to have a big bag of various GM bulb holders but binned them in my big garage clearout at the start of LD1 :(

Right - I’ve done it  ::) :y

Got 3 of the right bulbs fitted and 2 others I’ve managed to bend to fit the contacts tight.

Anyway I’ve test fitted it all - all lights work without wobbling

Heater works too which is why I stripped it out in the first place.

Result !! - thanks for support & help

Useful to know that there could he an issue with panel bulbs 🤔
