2.2 dti engine conversion to bmw 2.5 tds
« on: 18 January 2022, 03:02:17 »

Hi,

I've got an omega estate which i dont want to scrap/sell with the 2.2 dti engine, I've had nothing but trouble with the fueling system, yet another pump has died, i've wired in a pre supply pump thinking it'd help it along, this is the 5th pump i've put on it, not getting bored of this.

I managed to find a 2.5 tds engine complete from a e39 with most of the bits, I need some help please before i give into this project

IDoes the 2.5 tds engine bolt up to the existing 5 spd manual gearbox?

Does the existing pedal assy work?

Any other input welcome,i have a saab 9-5 estate doesnt compare to the omega, I'd much rather get that back on the road

Thanks for any help

If the existing gearbox fits, then yes, the clutch will be unaffected.

The accelerator pedal depends entirely on the set up on both engines...

If both cable throttles then swapping the cable should be OK. If both electronic then that complicates matters, and the solution depends on how much of the E39 you have... ie dash looms etc.

Another consideration is that the pre 2001 2.5 dti Omega as sold in the UK is a small pool of early face-lift cars so the engine management will probably be different in the DTS/E39.

If you can find one, a rough rhd Omega with the straight six lump should provide most of the parts to simplify the swap as all the looms and throttle gubbins will fit your current Omega with the minimum of fuss.

Also consider that things such as subframe, front springs and cooling systems will be very different to the 2.2 ;)
