Pesky p0340 code
« on: 16 July 2022, 16:43:23 »

I have searched the forum and am undecided as to whether to change it, car is a 2.2 petrol auto 2002, which I have only recently started driving, starts and runs ok but I may be imagining it but seems a bit flat when the engine light comes on, there is just this code, could it be possibly a thing else or shall I just man up and change it?

Welcome to the forum.

When engine light comes on the engine will go into limp mode, so car will feel flat, as it reduces power.  Changing the sensor is not a hard thing to do, even for a novice. And there is a good howto in the maintenance section. Just make sure you get a genuine one, not a aftermarket one, as they can sometimes cause more problems.  The wifes 2.0 sometimes plays up when the weather is very hot. But for peace of mind, changing it is the easiest answer. :y

Quinton Hazel is a long established aftermarket parts manufacturer/supplier. It's not genuine Vauxhall. But an O2 sensor doesn't need to be genuine, as any of the quality brands(at least one of which would have been GM's original supplier) like Bosch or NGK will do the job, be cheaper and easier to find.

P0340   is Camshaft Sensor on 2.2 not O2 sensor :y.  I suggested genuine for camsensor as got non genuine, for the wifes 2ltr and had more problems, which went when got genuine.  Genuine can be got on Ebay.

The code could also mean that belt has moved.

Poor timing will also cause driveability issues...

On early 2.0 there was also a potential problem with how the loom was run, but not later 2.0 or 2.2.

Cam sensor is the most likely, and from memory on those, limits rpm to 4000, and makes it a pig to start.  If its an auto, check for any fault codes in TCM, as that can cause a P0340 on those.

I know some members had some issues with 2.2 cam sensors of supposedly decent branded sensors bought from dubious places, so ensure that you get it from reputable sources (ie, not egay/arsebook/amazon marketplace etc)

Didn't QH go tits up, and the name was bought by a cheap parts maker in order to hand a brand?  I heard that QH parts are now pretty poor quality in relation to before it went bust?

You would have been better off with £13 of KFC.
